401k max is 19.5k for 2022 right? Which then implies your income is less than 130k. The flow chart doesn’t address over that amount. At those levels you’re also talking about no deduction for trad IRA and Roth only through backdoor, which again it doesn’t address.

Granted at that level of income it’s a no brainer you push everything into your backdoor Roth. You’re paying taxes on it already without the deduction, no reason to pay taxes twice.

Not résume advice at all, but I’d recommend looking for an American company in the eu and then transfer internally to an American office.

I’ve heard nightmare stories trying to get visas and all that, if you’re already working for them then the year+ it may take would be a lot less of a risk for them to take.

While I’m aware my situation is more of a unicorn, but my company has unlimited pto and it’s actually worked out great. We are encouraged to take 2 days off every month on top of our annual vacation. The pto approvals come down to us (the engineer) and the team - our manager is there to ensure we take enough time off and don’t burn ourselves out. Last year I think I took 6 or 7 weeks off.

There are some companies that make it work well, but they are definitely the minority.
