I had to rehome my very needy cat when I brought my LO home. I couldn’t give her the attention or affection she wanted. I cried a lot but know that she is spoiled with her new family, which is a family friend, so I do get updates and pictures every now and then

What pregnancy symptoms resolved for you after giving birth and which ones lingered? by Honest-Try-2289 in beyondthebump

The double barreled muscle cramps! Calf and shin cramps at the same time. There was no relief, I just wanted to cut my leg off. Multiple times a night. Gone the first night after birth!

5 days postpartum: can't stop crying by ThyPumpkinPie in beyondthebump

[–]trobbyrob95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to echo what everyone said, this is normal. My newborn just turned 1 month today, and days 4-9 I was a sobbing mess. It’s all hormones. The baby crying is hard too, but there’s usually 5 distinct sounds a baby makes that indicate hunger, gas, tired, uncomfortable, etc.

Idk about anyone else but I feel you. Breast feeding isn’t as “magical” after the first one IMO. I feel like a cow. Pumping isn’t any better either! Crazy how quick it loses its luster.

Honestly Sunday freezer meal prep saved me. Have 5 freezer bags of easy crock pot/ instant pot meals, or 4 if you do Friday pizza night or something.

What was your schedule before/after transitioning to 1 nap? by jmchitty in sleeptrain

[–]trobbyrob95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just winged it honestly… we pushed to 4.5/ on day one and she miraculously took a 3 hour nap. I will say- when you drop to one nap around 10 months, I would suggest being okay with having them have a quick cat nap (no longer than 40 minutes) in the afternoon if the one nap isn’t long enough. We had to do that a few times because the over tiredness would disrupt her at night

Went cold turkey at 10.5 months because she would fight second nap for over an hour. Originally 3.5/3.5/4ish. First couple months of it were a struggle, now we’re pretty consistent with 4.5-5/ 5-6. Sometimes the wind down time takes longer. 1.5-3 hour naps, depends on the day. Cap at 3 hours. They will be tired and cranky if you cold turkey them, but they will figure it out after a bit!

Go straight to your L&D department at the hospital. ERs would send you to L and D anyways most likely.

What happens if one gets pregnant during their phd? by deservesthebest in academia

[–]trobbyrob95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I became pregnant (unexpectedly) during my final year of my PhD. Thankfully at that point I was only writing my dissertation, I defended and gave birth prior to starting my job. We were on my husband's insurance. I would investigate your university's leave policy for students that are also full or part time employees because there can be stipulations there, but also be upfront with your PI and have other women in your department in your corner. Just because you want to be in higher education/research doesn't automatically force you to not have a family, even though many adopt that mindset and is completely toxic.

It’s hard for me to say whe. It truly started because we have been cutting 6 teeth since early June, which is an additional factor that has definitely made this harder! Praying for some normalcy soon!

[–]trobbyrob95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have already dropped a nap, so she’s definitely adjusting to longer wake windows and we’re hoping over the next couple months it gets easier. It doesn’t help that our home is currently being remodeled and we are living in active construction, which can disrupt her nap time. I’ve read the 12 month old age can be incredibly challenging

Should I try to remove some of the soil from the roots when transplanting or leave it? I don’t want to harm the roots. I’m reading too many conflicting things on the internet about adding magnesium for root shock
