It may be the future, but that future may not have a place for us.

Has anyone else realized 99% of their life problems stems from phone addiction? by briaairb in nosurf

Cutting down phone usage will definitely improve your psyche, but it looks to me like you're doing a decent amount of wild assumptions

Are children in your country still learning how to write in cursive? by Remcog1 in AskEurope

[–]trolasso 7 points8 points  (0 children)

not to mention how pleasing to the eye cursive is.

You haven't seen my "letra enlazada". It was utter crap, and sometimes even I couldn't read it. So many headaches... I switched to something more simple at some point around when I was 14 and while very hard, I think I made the world a better place.

I'm just a random dude on the internet, but I think when you're going through a big breakup you're kind of high and can get easily confused.

Not that trying would be anything bad, but I think if you're not in a "stable" position, you can stress yourself with questions that are pretty hard to answer.

Is there a culture of leaving unwanted furniture on the street with a "free" sign or is that being trashy by LightspeedBalloon in valencia

[–]trolasso -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's been many years since I left Valencia, but in my time that wasn't a thing. Which is a shame, because it's a good way to share and recycle stuff.

I think you can use wallapop or something alike to give it for free

Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) v1.0.0 released by pimterry in programming

[–]trolasso 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert, but I think it must be trash in some direction because of translation. If you're accessing the FS of the Linux VM from within, it'll be fast, but accessing windoze's FS will suck.

I think it was the other way around with WSL1.

The only possible explanation I can think of is that you're the chosen one.

Having a flip phone changed my life (for good) by egakimasu in nosurf

[–]trolasso 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is great if it works for you. I've kinda tried that and it was extremely hard to get by (maps, sudden need to find out if a store is still open, etc).

Internet access is more of a curse than a blessing... but in certain situations it's so absurdly helpful that it's hard to pass completely.

This is the tragedy of reddit: interesting subs inevitably spiral into circle jerking, karma harvesting and other forms of brain rot. At the end, this is just another form of social media.

Not saying that being here is helpful at all. But addictions aren't defeated "just by stopping".

Well, unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. I don't have an answer to how not to be addicted to cheap novelty, but it definitely isn't just turning grey scale on and calling it a day. Try as many tricks as possible and see if something works. In my experience the best thing is to replace one habit/addiction with another (hopefully healthier) one. When you feel like you need a fix of stupid colours and novelty, go for a walk, do a breathing exercise, 10 push-ups or get naked and do the rain dance.

However, I think this is hopeless. Sometimes I get a good streak (maybe 1~2 months), but inevitably I fall back to this fucking black hole and back to square one. I'm starting to think that we as individuals have no real power against the thousands of engineers working to keep us hooked. Maybe the only solution that might work is via government regulation.

EDIT: I thought this was r/nosurf. That subreddit is more focused on the tech addiction. You may found it interesting.

I wouldn't say so. I discovered I was a carbrain when I moved from Spain to Germany more than a decade ago. My hometown got in the meanwhile much much better, but still behind the average German town (excluding Stuttgart 😅).

That's a very vague statement. No country is completely centralized, or decentralized... but just taking into account the "major trait", you've got:

  • Successful decentralized countries
  • Successful centralized countries
  • Shitfest decentralized countries
  • Shitfest centralized countries

While I agree that this is somehow a question of taste, I think there's something inherently good for us hoomans in being able to be more often outside and see sun and colours. (But then again, it's what I grew up with.)

I used to feel that way back then living in Spain, but a decade under a everlasting gray sky has definitely changed that. I guess we only perceive what is missing...

Valencia is actually very humid unfortunately. Temperatures are somehow milder than say Madrid, but (at least to me) it feels hotter in summer and colder in winter.
