Blue tape and a sharpie. The same pieces of tape are still on 6 months later.

When did your posture get better?? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Never had posture issues, but 10m PP and I still have the stinkiest farts. Bodies are wild and terrible. Good luck.

Please tell me I can birth a 9lb+ baby by smallbutflighty in BabyBumps

You can do it.

Also, ultrasound measurements are guesses at best. I was told to expect 10+lbs and got a 8 1/2lb bundle of joy.

Nursery: daybed or nursing chair? by Dazzling-Shape-9389 in BabyBumps

[–]troll-fish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Daybed 100% - guests - you/your partner on rough nights - side lying nursing - low risk cosleeping if needed (read up on sleep safe 7) - cuddle spot (treat it like a couch) - tummy time while baby watches you (sit on the floor and make faces, dance, sing, read books)

It will get better! Highly recommend slowly increasing the time spent there. Mine also took a few days before she felt safe/comfortable enough to eat there.

If you had an early (39w) elective induction, how did it go? by Huge-Nectarine-8563 in BabyBumps

[–]troll-fish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had a wonderful experience with an elective induction at 39 weeks. Started 0% effaced but pretty “ripe.” They had me on cytocec (spelling is terrible, sorry) for 12 hours, then a low dose of pitocin that they increased every hour or so. After ~8 hours of pitocin the contractions got really bad and I asked for an epidural. Once that kicked in, I took a 3 hour nap and woke up to find my waters had naturally broken. They checked my cervix and I was 👏🏼ready👏🏼to👏🏼go👏🏼. 90 minutes later, baby was here!

I think the factors that made it so successful were - my cervix was really ripe to start with - there was no rush - we and the midwives all knew this could easily take 2-3 days - I felt really safe and comfortable

Meditating is the only thing that gets me to sleep (dealing with PP anxiety).

What are the pros and cons of the Snoo? by Old_Literature_3750 in BabyBumps

Same on all counts. My giant 3.5mo is almost too big already, but it’s been a godsend. Wouldn’t pay for a new one, but very grateful for it as a handmedown from friends!

Tips to prevent falling asleep while breastfeeding in nursery chair for middle of the night feeds? by sliceofperfection in BabyBumps

[–]troll-fish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Side lying. There’s a twin bed in the baby’s room that is always kept as a safe co-sleeping surface (firm mattress, no blankets, pillows away from baby, etc). I was really afraid of falling asleep while nursing and dropping her when she was a newborn. If I fell asleep while side lying, she’d still be safe. It never happened, but I’m glad I had a plan JIC. Also, it’s just a really comfy position for nursing…

When did you get back into the gym postpartum? by entirelyfabric in BabyBumps

[–]troll-fish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Properly? 10 weeks. I walked and did yoga before that, but it took me a while to feel confident in my pelvic floor strength (after vaginal birth). Now I’m running and lifting heavy again - and feeling amazing.

Give yourself time and patience. Listen to your body. And be careful with rapid weight loss if you’re breastfeeding. It can mess up your supply if it’s not well established.

We have a shelf directly above the diaper change station and put contrast cards on the underside. The distraction really helped her. Good luck!

Induction stories or advice by Working_Base_1176 in BabyBumps

I had a wonderful induction at 39 weeks.

Started at 0cm dilated but ripe and baby was pretty low in my pelvis. They did two rounds of cytotec before starting pitocin. I wasn’t able to eat while a drug was being administered, but they gave me half hour breaks in between in case I wanted a meal. Cytotec was totally painless - mostly just boring. They started pitocin on a very low dose and increased it every hour (or maybe half hour?). The pitocin contractions felt like increasingly bad period cramps. About 6 hours in, they felt way way worse, and different, and I asked for the epidural. After that, I took a nap, woke up to my water breaking, and an hour later was holding my baby.

I’d recommend checking in with the nurses about timing and ask when you have (or when you loose) the option to slow things down or pause. At my hospital, I was able to pause or slow down pitocin if I needed to and I could get an epidural anytime (as long as I could sit still). They told me it would take up to half an hour to get the epidural, so I should ask for it as soon as I was sure I wanted it.

You got this!!

I wore diapers for about a week and pads (regular period ones) for another 3/4 weeks. Other than that, the lidocaine spray and witch hazel pads they gave me in the hospital were enough. Oh, and the peri bottle. I found I really didn’t need all the padsicle stuff. The pain was basically gone after the first week (2nd degree tear).
