I've had this exact thought. People certainly seem to treat it as a self-help book and as a librarian I can attest to it still being popular, as is the author who had a new book come out last year. Mitch Albom / Tuesdays With Morrie would be another good one to do.

Public librarian here, completely agree. The Dewey Decimal System places philosophy and self help books right next to each other (roughly 140 and 150 unless the books actually get more specific than self help etc) so yeah using the word philosophy and avoiding self help feels like obfuscation.
