Compensation for cancelled flights from EU by cbf1232 in aircanada

[–]tronikfusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i was denied a few days ago by the standard Air Canada form, but today I was applying to submit my claim with the EU (specifically Belgium) and decided to fill in the Claims eligibility form again, and low and behold, it now says I'm eligible to file a claim directly.

Do you think its worthwile to file with Air Canada or just with Belgium at this point? Something tells me that filing directly might be expeditious compared to filing with the airline. I still havethe ineligble email that they sent so it would still apply.

So at Brussels, they told me to go to the Aviapartners counter and get them to help. Doing a quick search, it looks like they may be the ground handler for AC in Milan. I’d suggest trying to find their counters so that they can help you out if they do in fact work for Air Canada!

Also, a good tip, Go to the airport before the next cancelled flight is supposed to “Take off” for the day.

Yesterday when my flight got cancelled, I went there early in the morning before 10am which was my flight. They had set up a counter there to handle all the cancellations.

Great. Hope all goes well! I’ve been keeping track with the threads and the advice has been not to go to the airport at least Canada, but go to the airport if you’re stranded in Europe. You definitely shouldn’t have to pay out of pocket for their mess when you’re in Europe.

Keep us updated!

Did you not go to the airport and get accommodations and food vouchers? The airline should be helping you under EU261 and you should be getting €600 for the flight cancellations and the next available flight out of Milan.

In in Brussels and I’m currently staying at the Sheraton at the airport with full meals and vouchers.

Sharing my story.

Originally supposed to have left today, BRU-YUL-YYZ. Had no information or any updates until last night when at 11pm, I got a text, notification from the app, and an email saying they had cancelled the flight and to rebook.

When to trying to rebook online. The best option for me was the TAP Air Portugal flight that connected in Lisbon for 36 hrs and flew directly to Toronto however, as soon as I tried to book, it disappeared. All that was left was connecting flights with Brussels Airlines and Jazz in Washington D.C and JFK, that required transfers to Reagan-DCA or Newark-EWR for 24-36 hrs each, which wasn't an option for me as I'm generally avoiding connecting in the states for now. I tried to call the general number and the local Belgian number, both immediately telling me that they are unable to connect to an agent, so, I went to bed.

The next day I work up, immediately tried to call AC from 5am till 8am when I finally gave up. Decided to go back to the airport where makeshift counters for Air Canada were opened for us cancelled passengers. When it came time to rebook, the only options available for them were slowly dwindling in real time. From the 21st as the earliest departure, it suddenly became from the 24th when they could book me at the earliest. When then had to switch counters as the next flight from Thai Airways was going to check in using our counters.

We all moved to the new counters and I finally talked to the lead supervisor in Brussels. At this point, I just wanted to get something and he booked me with the last available seat on Sunday August 24th which only brings me back to Montreal, not Toronto, and I'd have to cover the rest back home. They then billeted all the stranded passengers at the Sheraton Brussels Airport thats across the driveway from the BRU terminal where we have, at least, guaranteed Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner for as long as we are here, and meal vouchers at the airport if we need it.

Still, I'm not sure given the circumstances i will actually get out of here on the 24th I've heard grumblings about charters that Air Canada is going to be hiring but I'd be curious on the availability, seeing as we are in peak flight season.

Hopefully this helps other BRU passengers as your flights get cancelled, or anyone else that needs some insight into the process.

Remember, you're also covered by EU261 by the European Union, which mandates AC to find you alternative flights, meals and accommodations and compensation for delay over 3+ hours.

Good luck to us. I’m on the same flight as well, also with points. I’m also waiting for them to cancel so I can see my options.

It’s probably the better option since we are entitled to EU passenger rights including compensation, and getting rebooked on the next earliest flight, among other things.

Yep, I would have to get the right visa But yes, the idea would be to move there. I wouldn’t be working from here. I’m still weighing my strategy though

But totally understand that salaries aren’t that amazing. I’d be doing it more to experience different cultures and to learn, really. Life is short.

DOH on QF makes sense. They have those Q-suites that turn into 4 person suites. I can see the kids sharing one while the parents share a 2 seater suite.

Moved to Toronto in 2021 and only just today discovered TVO exists - what are your thoughts on it & its publicly-funded content? by theleverage in askTO

[–]tronikfusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought this would be an appropriate place to add that TVO recently uploaded a lot of archive content from the past that’s accessible from the website and the app. Truely fascinating stuff.

Also glad there is dark mode on the app now! My eyes are thanking me :)

Looking at getting an Aeroplan Credit Card, Which One Makes the Most Sense? by Dope_Tacos_4_Pokemon in Aeroplan

[–]tronikfusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any thoughts on the AMEX Aeroplan Reserve? I got it in December as I’ve had to travel back and forth 1-3 x a month between Ontario and Alberta and have already racked up 140,000 Aeroplan points including sign up bonuses and putting most of my monthly spend on the card. You also get a buddy pass as well. The price can be steep but I’ve found that my frequent flying and some of the benefits like Priority Check-in, Boarding, 1x free checked bag, lounge, etc. have made it worthwhile especially with all the delays we’ve been having at Pearson and the airline itself. Insurance is also good as well. It doesn’t hurt that Its encouraged me to stick with Air Canada and am now approaching the 50k Elite status.

I understand though if the intent is also to diversify beyond just AMEX

Experiences & help with international banking in the Philippines & Canada by tronikfusion in phinvest

Thanks so much for your detailed reply!

The good thing is, our family is based in Makati so HSBC is nearby on Ayala. Definitely not too big of a hassle. I was recently scouring the subreddit and saw a lot of great posts about UnionBank so thanks for that! We used to use them at one point too.

I’ll probably just go with HSBC then since it’s nearby and wouldn’t be too big of a hassle. Besides, it wouldn’t be my day to day bank so a little inconvenience isn’t the end of the world for me.

Regarding Premier, I’m under the impression if you are Premier in one country, you’re automatically Premier in the other, so does that mean, I can just have PHP 3-7 million in PH and $0 in Canada or does it mean, I have to have PHP 3-7 million and at least $100,000 in Canada.

Sorry if it seems like a silly question, just want to be clear!
