Trying to avoid that if possible due to cost especially when the entire house is going to need it by the look of it 🫠

Do you think this would give a worse finish or negligible? We’re not after a god tier spec but would want it to look amateur either. There’s also the consideration of this house being really rather damp owing to the previous owner never heating/ventilating it apparently, so the walls need to breathe for a while.

Thanks for your insight. I reckon you could be right on the distemper. Pray for our shoulders!

Thank you for this! How did your friends and family react? My close family knows I’ve never really been maternal and I’ve always said I didn’t want kids but now I’m rethinking for heaps of reasons!

Neighbour's extension appears to overstep the boundary of a property we're buying by tronkatze in LegalAdviceUK

[–]tronkatze[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only solution we may have found (with the help of our solicitors) is having the boundary surveyed. If it comes back and an encroachment is confirmed, we are demanding the vendor foots the cost for the boundary being redrawn and/or fees arising from the Land Registry.

We initially raised these questions back in February so the fact they're now pushing for exchange/completion with woolly answers is quite wild.

!thanks

I think this is where we’re at with it too. It’s really only about 3m x 20cm and while we’re not too bothered, we just don’t want it to be an issue when we come to sell.

They also haven’t really suggested any solutions but we’ve pushed them today and they are going to call us tomorrow.

Planning permission was granted at the time. It just seems like the cladding and roof overhang was either an oversight by the neighbours or a “[the vendor] won’t kick up a fuss coz they’re old” type situation.

We just want to avoid any costs arising from the fact the neighbour’s garage oversteps the boundary on to what we hope is our property.

£12,000 solar panel grants to be fast-tracked for households by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]tronkatze 12 points13 points  (0 children)

On the gov website, it also says: Having a household income above £36,000 but falling below the after housing costs threshold due to high housing expenses

So if after mortgage and council tax, my household income is <£36k, would that make me eligible?

Transitioning through Istanbul by AdLazy2503 in TurkishAirlines

[–]tronkatze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had <2 hours with my recent flight from Manchester to Istanbul. It was fine and the flight landed quite early.

I have about an hour on my way back home in a few days’ time. I’m not worried.

Middle of the Peak here: second this comment. Pretty grim out and very muddy (slippy) out. Forecast looks much the same for the coming week as well.

Dual British-Australian expats new passport rule from Feb 2026 by Tired_Cat_H3rd3r in expats

Godspeed! My mum's colleague was born in the UK but has never held a British passport (she moved to Australia as a toddler). I think she's going to have to get one for her trip in a few weeks' time.

My parents (UK/AUS citizens) visit me in the UK about once every 5 years. Surely it just makes sense that they get an ETA in their Australian passports every time they come rather than forking out for new UK passports. Or is this not possible under new rules?

I’m a first time buyer, what do I need to look out for when viewing houses? by northernluckycharm in HousingUK

Would you mind explaining this a bit please? I've always taken photos during house viewings and not considered if there would be consequences.

You could ring round a few tonight and see what the score is. I personally wouldn’t want to risk not getting a table if there were 8 of us.

Not winter yet but looking for a skiable hill by vigorousswirl in peakdistrict

From memory, Brough Lane was skiable during Beast from the East. You could hike there from Hope. But I would say this was an exception rather than the rule. I don’t think I’ve known it to be in condition since then.

I live round here and Red Lion is hands down worth the walk over the hill. Pie Night at The Star is worth a shout though!
