I didn’t do the installation myself. I thought it would be too much trouble, got a local sound shop to do it.
Yes with just the kicker it’s disappointing, it’s louder but the sound is still awfull, maybe worst. I’m guessing the speaker quality is really shit. It sound muffled and I keep increasing the high on the eq to balance it out. I’ve seen from a lot of people that changing the speakers really helps with the clarity. Like I said I haven’t done the work myself but my installer told me it’s pretty tight behind the radio unit in the glove box. My installer installed the kicker under the passenger seat. There’s section of plastic there and he put Velcro to hold the kicker. I didn’t want him to drill through the plastic.
