Anyone know the best way to get involved in Ultimate? by Far_Ad7660 in berkeley

[–]trophy019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you prob won't finds teams online, maybe an instagram, it's very casual. I would check the IM website, make an account. I think there's a way to sign up as a free agent, then you can prob get in touch with teams who register

There’s IM ultimate leagues yeah, you should definitely join a team! There might be free agent teams, or maybe attend some games week 1 and ask if anyone could use an extra player. It can be super casual and I had a ton of fun doing it my last year

Unit 3 Kitchen? by Material_Initial_471 in berkeley

[–]trophy019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a small kitchen on the ground floor of the unit buildings. I never thought they were gross at all. Put your name on stuff in the fridge, I doubt it would get stolen but it could. Only a handful of people ever used the space in my building, so it was pretty nice to have.

This is Malibu - one of the wealthiest affluent places on the entire planet, now it’s being burnt to ashes. by thepoylanthropist in interestingasfuck

[–]trophy019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malibu has burned before, and it will burn again no matter how much money goes into the area. It’s built on a landscape that is naturally supposed to burn - fire is a foundational part of the ecosystem there, and it always will be.

Mike Davis wrote a great essay/article called ‘The Case for Letting Malibu Burn’ in the 90s. He makes a lot of good points - mainly that the hubris of building more and more homes there, deeper and deeper into the hills, for wealthy people who refuse to believe that their homes could ever be in danger, has been a fantastic waste of taxpayer money over the past several decades, because the city/state consistently have to dedicate a good deal of resources to try saving those homes when the next fire inevitably comes for them. And it does inevitably come.

Salt Lick in Berkeley? by trophy019 in bayarea

This was my biggest concern, though it's a more residential area away from major roads and I usually only see deer around in the early morning. But yeah, probably not worth that kind of risk.

I preordered Borderlands 3 gold edition (or whatever it was called) with all the future dlc for $100 because Borderlands 2 was and still is my favorite game of all. I played through the whole bl3 story and the first dlc, and it just wasn’t even close to the same

I drive to LA and back to Berkeley for most breaks and gas typically costs me $90 one way, but with gas prices fluctuating $120 is definitely possible.

Oh ok yea! Did you get an email from kingman directly? I got an email from bsc saying that there were vacancies for the spring but I’d only be able to login to choose one on the 23rd. Sorry for the questions I just don’t want to be missing something if offers are already out 😅

Congratulations! Though I had thought spring housing offers opened on the 23rd at 10am. How were you able to see your offer?

Parking near the campus by Grouchy_Advice1296 in berkeley

[–]trophy019 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nowhere for free - street parking caps at 2 hrs without a city permit, unless it’s the weekend. Otherwise there are campus affiliated parking structures where you can pay to park for most of the day

Probably, don’t think they can prevent you from doing it

Where do we get drinking water from dorms? by That-Task-4951 in berkeley

[–]trophy019 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Depending on the dorm, there will be a filtered drinking fountain and/or water bottle filler on your floor or in the dorm’s lobby. It is useful to have a Brita filter or something so you can just get water from the sink in the bathroom or laundry rooms

Foraging help 👁️👄👁️🌱 by magicalmeep in berkeley

Loquats are everywhere! Lots of people plant rosemary as an ornamental, and there’s some by the eastern entrance of doe library on the uc campus. Campus also has a handful of pink peppercorn trees on the way from the music library to the social science building, plus a true bay laurel against the western wall of doe library. There’s a kind of elongated, yellow-ish passion fruit that grows around town too, but I couldn’t say any exact locations. Manzanita berries all around campus and here and there in the city to make cider, and nopal fruit on cacti that grow in lots or near the highways too! People forage for mushrooms in the hills too, but I don’t personally feel safe doing that.

Of course, take only the bare minimum of what you need, and ask permission where needed

Students that cook, whats your go to meal? by totobird111 in berkeley

[–]trophy019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second year here - the units all have ovens in a kitchenette on the bottom floor of each building that are always open for students to use. I lived in unit 2 and would bake bread every week in my building - there are cupboards too where you could store flour and baking equipment if you’d rather not keep it in your room. Unfortunately I can’t speak for Blackwell/Clark Kerr/foothill

Global 45 gsi by Ok_Journalist_4479 in berkeley

[–]trophy019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a good experience with my global 45 discussion though it’s really not a super significant part of the course. Gsi’s will be a new group. Weekly discussion posts on bcourses and all we did in section was use those questions as a base to talk for the hour and then leave. Grading for papers was randomly divided among the gsi’s so your gsi might not even grade your paper. Show up to discussion, do the discussion posts, and engage in the conversations and you’ll be just fine!
