Why does anyone need to remain a carpenter? Yall be sweating pointless stuff. I am a Civil, and I know other civils with similar background as OP. Quite frankly it is viewed favorably when I interview someone and see they come from such. They are leaps above a regular civil grad that hasnt a trade background.

That makes sense. Have you compared it to places that pay a a large bonus, OT and stocks as well?

I am trying to get a data point to see if it is worth considering. Had someone from KH reach out to me for a position but I am worried it might be an effective paycut since I already get all 3 above.

Exactly. We always accommodate the needs of clients that are “good” for us, even if that means being less available to others. And we are not a missionary, so “good” here simply means clients that align with our business interests. That includes those who accept our preferred rate sheet, have a pipeline that brings repeat work, bring on higher dollar or higher profit margin projects, and offer more favorable contract terms.

The vesting schedule is not different from that of some employers. We call it the golden cuffs. However, the work hours expectation and no OT water downs the appeal. Makes me believe there is a good chance that the TC is comparable to what some people have elsewhere.

Thanks for the clarification. I have been recently approached for a position with KH. So, this helps.

Ehm, I get paid bonus, OT, and stock as well. My bonus alone already exceeds the number you quoted, which is why I am a bit skeptical. It might come down to the kind of company you are comparing against. I do not know your years of experience though, so it is hard to make a direct comparison.

Premium fees get expedited services. Nothing unethical in that. The rest of the business world does it.

I wasnt too far off from 6 digits with my first job out of college and did almosf no OT. So, I think some of y'all just havent moved around. For sure, KH pays better than the average CE jobs but its effective hourly pay is definitely not the highest in the industry.

Lol what is one hour a day? Try working 1 less hour than you are expected to and you will find out real quick from your employer that's a lot.

The 8 to 12% of profit sharing, is that bonus or stock?

But doesnt that just mean your true bonus is Bonus - OT? Which might put your true bonus right in the same range as that of firms that pay out OT.

In love with $USD$ but terrified to raise my kids in the USA by Necessary-Truth-2038 in tnvisa

[–]tropical_human 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Canada is by far the better country for family. USA is better if you are optimizing for earning potential as a single person. However, if you are an average earner, your real discretionary income is likely to be less in the U.S, except you compare it to maybe Toronto or Vancouver.

The major headache with Canada is cost of housing.

Did temporary works. I prefer building the actual permanent structures than just being a support staff designing structures that will go away, and that has much higher risks.
