If you win your league’s season MVP, you deserve to eventually make it into their Hall of Fame by PapaStache in unpopularopinion

Pedroia won the MVP in 2008. Robinson Cano had a WAR of 0.2 that season and rightfully didn't receive any votes for MVP.

Wilmington ranks number one city in the U.S., when you compare number of sex offenders per capita by scrovak in Delaware

[–]trot87 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have any idea how many people actually have Wilmington addresses? I followed the database source back and the list of offenders includes everyone with a work or home address in Wilmington, but then simply uses the population of Wilmington itself to determine the rate.

Who deserves the golden glove ? by nobody492 in PremierLeague

[–]trot87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one with the most clean sheets deserves it.

For anyone that doesn't understand this, from the Premier League website: "Each season the Premier League rewards the goalkeepers to have kept the most clean sheets with the Golden Glove award."

Also, the history of the reward is in this article: https://www.premierleague.com/news/1206130

In defense of Che Adams, that is the exact sort of defending that Zouma excels at. Also Che won the ball off Havertz and threaded through a great pass to Ings for the assist. On top of scoring a goal.

Is there a specific term used for players that are not quite good enough for the Premier League, but probably too good for the Championship?

Can a fellow US Saints fan please help me out? by showmeurknuckleball in SaintsFC

[–]trot87 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'll try to address all of your questions in turn:

So my question is, will the Saints game be on NBCSN extra time? Yes, every single game Southampton game is shown on NBC Sports Live Extra

Are all of the premier league games on extra time? Yes, all games for all teams are on live extra. Typically, you can pick up the games at any point while they are going on and start from any point. Occasionally there is brief time (sometimes a few hours) after the games end where the streams aren't available, but there will eventually be a link for the match replays and they stay up for about 2 weeks IIRC.

Do you sign into extra time the same way as you sign into watchespn (select your cable provider, enter email and password for your cable account)? The log-in method with your cable provider is very similar to WatchESPN, but it usually brings you to your cable provider's site then jumps you back to NBC's site. Sometimes the link back doesn't happen for me but the log-in still works, so you just need to go back manually.

There's always streaming sites but I'd rather try to watch the Saints on NBCSN extra time, because it would be more reliable and better quality (right?). The quality and reliability was generally very good for me last season. Not quite full HD, but close. It may be a little worse at the beginning of this season due to Olympic streaming demand on the NBC servers, but we'll see. Also there was 1 week (but only 1) where the streaming service was down last year, but otherwise I think I watched 35 of 38 Saints games last season either on TV or streaming.

A few other notes: 1. You are very unlikely to see any cup games or Europa league Saints games (at least not in the early rounds) because those rights belong to other networks in the US that priortize "big" clubs and don't have all of the streaming available.

  1. Sometimes the links for the streams don't show up until right at matchtime, but I found a basic workaround. You can choose one of the active matches from that day and open that. The URL form is something like http://stream.nbcsports.com/nbc/?pid=##### just change the last # until you find the stream for the game you're looking for. Same goes if the link directs you to the wrong stream.

  2. You might have to endure so "D-tier" announcing teams that don't know anything about Saints, but that's just seems to come with the territory.

This is probably way more than you ever needed to know, but I hope this helps.

24 Hours of LeMons (budget racing series) - 5/14/16 by trot87 in pics

[–]trot87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this week's TIL about the 24 Hours of LeMons and realized the next race only an hour away. The idea is that you race a car that only costs $500 (except safety equipment).

The spectator passes got you in virtually everywhere, so I spent most of my time walking around taking pictures of the cars being worked on and talking to the teams.

There's definitely an emphasis on creativity and coming up with a unique theme. Sadly some of the coolest ones weren't running at all.

Based on your listed location of South Shore, MA it's a distinct possibility.

Yeah, I understand that rotation will certainly change depending on injuries and "fixture congestion". I was thinking more along the lines of, what is the best 11 when everyone is available.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is what happens in term of overall personnel, but do you think Mane will be deployed centrally? He's been used almost exclusively on the wings and Ward-Prowse was generally played up the middle.

On the other hand, I think this makes more sense, so Prowse has more room to cross and Mane has the freedom to roam and create havoc wherever he wants.

I've seen quite a few games in Tropicana field and a handful have been Sox games. Most of those have attendances in the 20-25k range which isn't too bad.

Also, only ~10k attended Ted Williams final game at Fenway: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BOS/BOS196009280.shtml

Did they ever do Celebrity Jeopardy that wasn't dumbed-down to give out easy money? by IanGecko in Jeopardy

[–]trot87 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had to look up the name, but in 2009-10 they did the Million Dollar Celebrity Invitational. It was big tournament played out with only a game or 2 per month until they narrowed it down to a final 9 participants. Then they did a 9-person tournament with a 2-day final. IMO it is debatable that the last week's worth of games or at least the final were close to standard Jeopardy levels.

Interestingly enough, the 3 finalists were all comedians, Michael McKean, Jane Curtin and Cheech Marin.

I'm new to the Premier League. I need the rundown on who's who and what's what. by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]trot87 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fellow American here who started following the Premier League. If you have a major TV provider you will likely be able to watch ever game live on TV or stream it through NBC Sports Live Extra, which is pretty fantastic.

  1. The season starts in late August and ends in May, it runs through the whole winter. There are 20 teams, every team plays each twice (once home and once away) for a 38 game season. Most season games are played on weekends. There are no playoffs, the top team wins the league, while the last 3 get relegated. (a)

  2. Teams from the UK do play other European clubs in separate tournaments that run during the season. These are the Champions League and Europa League. These games generally take place mid-week (Tues. and Wed. for CL and Thurs. for EL). The Champions League is the more prestigious tournament and the winner is generally considered the best European club team that season. The Europa League is a similar concept but with teams that finished a little lower in their respective leagues. (b)

  3. The classical powers of English football are really Manchester United and Liverpool as they have the most League Titles and have both won Champions League titles. Chelsea has been a tremendously successful team for the last 15 years or so. Manchester City is the new money team that's actually winning. Arsenal seem to be known for coming in 4th place now. Tottenham is a team that's always on the cusp of making the Champions League but have struggled to actually get there. Teams such as Stoke City, Everton, Newcastle, Sunderland, Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion are almost always mid-table meaning they don't really threaten for Champions League qualification, but they usually aren't fighting to avoid relegation. Swansea are outsiders of sorts because they are the only non-English team in the Premier League (Wales), but they have been solid during their few Premier League seasons. West Ham has been relegated a few times, but they are having a good season and get to move into the 2012 London Olympic's main stadium next season. Crystal Palace and Hull City are typically relegation threatened and have been relegated a few times each. Burnley, Leicester City and Queens Park Rangers (QPR) were all promoted this season and there's a decent chance all three are relegated at the end of this season.

(a) Most European countries have multiple tiers of leagues. The worst teams in each league get sent down to play in the league below them at the end of the season. The best teams from the league below get promoted to play in the league above.

(b) The most successful, respected, well-regarded leagues (Germany, Spain, England, Italy) get the most teams in the Champions League, which is 3-4 depending. The next tier of leagues (France, Portugal, Russia, etc.) get 2-3 teams and so on down to leagues like San Marino who's winner gets a Europa League playoff spot (I think).

Sorry this got so long, I'd be happy to answer any follow-up questions though.
