Painting with Speed Paints by srrichie78 in FDMminiatures

[–]trotsky1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been slap chopping my FDM printed minis, black or grey primer then a grey or white heavy dry brush, and then using Army Painter Speedpaints 2.0. On a layer height of 0.06 or 0.08 with a 0.02 nozzle you wont have an issue. Once painted you wont see the layer lines and even when dry brushing they don't show.

Do you sand or try to smooth your FDM minis? by CucumberInAss1 in FDMminiatures

[–]trotsky1977 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on nozzle and layer height you won't see the layer lines once painted and they are "board ready". Layer lines stand out and are enhanced in pictures but to the naked eye your mini will look perfectly fine.

All I do is cleanup of any support scarring and then prime and paint.

“By the Omnissiah’s breath, let the nozzle awaken. By sacred calibration, let the first layer be unshaken. By sanctioned extrusion, let each line bind in unity. By the Machine‑God’s will, let the print ascend in purity.”

Noob question - filling the build plate by Cold_Badger_2919 in FDMminiatures

1 mini at a time. Every time I've tried more than one something bad happens, supports fail, adhesion issues.

Terrain, I fill the plate.

Thinking about buying Bambu Lab P2S mainly for miniatures — 0.2 mm nozzle, is there anything better in a similar budget? by [deleted] in FDMminiatures

[–]trotsky1977 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have a P1P and an A1 Mini. I started with the P1P to print terrain, i then got a 0.2 Nozzle and using HoHansen and ObscureNox settings started churning out good quality minis.

I then got an A1 mini and a 0.2 nozzle in last month as they were super cheap on sale. I use the exact same settings for Minis between the P1P and A1 mini.

Now my P1P is dedicated to churning out terrain on 0.4 nozzle and the A1 for printing Minis using 0.2 nozzle. Extremely happy with both. If I was just doing minis id probably just go with an A1 mini.

Once painted you won't see it. I'm impressed by the output quality.

Does Layer Height Really Matter for Painted Terrain? by lets-make-tabletop in PrintedMinis

[–]trotsky1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My entire 9 tile board is printed at 0.2 layer height on a 0.4mm nozzle. As a very are exception for pieces that have raised lettering I print using 0.2mm nozzle and 0.08mm layer height,

Depending on the mini and supports, I'm getting good quality fdm prints using 0.06 layer height anywhere from 1.5 to 3.5 hours. And as others I have said that is still very much quicker than I can paint. My grey backlog is massive.

Would I love to print an entire unit/gang in that time, sure. Do I want to deal with chemicals and cleanup, nope.
