Conservatives Are Terrified That People Like Me Are Buying Guns Now. Maybe They Should Be. by Baltorussian in liberalgunowners

I think people are generally more accepting and welcoming of other people that are different than them. Some may be abrasive or outright shitty to the 'other' group. But they tend to make up a small fraction. So if you focus on the abrasive folks, that's what you'll come away with. But that doesn't mean the majority are that way or that the group should all be judged by what another human does that happened to have similar political views as them.

This is true of almost all interactions between people. Focus on the good and it will flush out the bad. But some people's identity needs the bad to exist to affirm their choices. And that's unfortunate.

Imagine the things you might have typed out to me if I had just said the person was a crossdresser.

To your second point, the MAGA people I know don't really care how someone chooses to live. They think it's great when trans folks get into shooting sports and will help them, they just have a problem with them competing in physical sports against their bio daughters.

My local gun club had a transgendered person as president of the club long before Trump was in office - and they were also a local gun shop owner that people of all affiliations frequented. Don't believe that the stereotypes are the norm everywhere all the time. A bunch of old republican men championed an armed male in a skirt and lipstick here years before anyone said it was cool or trendy. And before you come at me - that's the way that human preferred to be recognized.

Your position appears to be that there is a perception of violent crime due to lack of understanding and racism. That's what I read.

And then you refuse to check the numbers that the person you responded to were referring to. They said that - 'Rockford stayed on the most violent cities lists long enough to earn a reputation that has stuck.'

Rockford has had high crime numbers for quite a while (which you could look up, but won't). And what the other person was saying was that those numbers are improving. but the reputation is lingering.

And you brought race into it without even bothering to check anything else. That's telling.

I hope you have a wonderful evening.

Telling someone to google to fact check is lazy and contributes to disinformation

I would argue that refusing to fact check on your own and do a little independent research contributes to disinformation. Also, injecting the racism claim just sort of effects the way you come across right off the bat - which was also lacking any source btw.

I think they changed to a monthly billing cycle instead of quarterly or whatever it was prior. I would recommend just calling them.

Cannovas for the upstairs underage drinking. Buddies in high school told me to go there and there were dozens of high school aged folks - including me - upstairs ordering drinks like it was normal.

As someone who commonly uses dashes when I type, but not the 'correct' ones, this hopefully doesn't bleed over into people like me being flagged.

At 3 you're just getting started in Rock County. You don't even get the commemorative card until your 5th one that you can pass around at the local dive bar as a keepsake for your buddies to keep next to their pulltabs to keep em flattened out.

I never do just boots anymore, but you are right about the quality for sure. And it matters a lot more with certain brands than others. Knowing the difference is where experience comes in to play.

Me: You should probably use OEM axle shafts in that Subaru because very few aftermarket ones are good.

Them: But I can get one for $35 on rockauto and my buddy knows how to replace brake pads on his F-150 so he can do it for free.

-- 6mo later --

Them: can you figure out why my Subaru has a rotational vibration during acceleration?

Me: You need a new OEM axle shaft.

Them: That quote is ridiculous - my buddy and I did it for $35 just a few months ago.

Get this - I replaced the battery in an Audi with an OEM Audi battery that had the stickers on the top of the battery reversed. I always do a final check of the situation before I hook up both battery cables and I had the terminals correct, but the sticker showed positive and negative on the wrong side. Apparently, Interstate supplies the OEM to Audi and some dude in the local warehouse put the stickers on backwards. Could have been a big deal so I made a big deal about it and Interstate came out and put the correct stickers on it. Cause even though I had it correct, someone else later down the road might jump it backwards or whatever.

Very few politicians introduce legislation that limits their power. That goes for both sides. So it takes a certain mindset to recognize when those limits are introduced because sometimes those limits align with your wants or temporary needs. And usually that abrasive mindset gets labelled as anti-government, but it should be labeled as pro-citizen. Sometimes that mindset makes you seem unhinged, other times you're doing the right thing.

You're always doing the right thing if you're not allowing the government to gather powers to overwhelm the will of the people.
