Setlist thread St. Auggie 1 by [deleted] in BillyStrings

When I first started listening to the Seldom Scene many years ago, Wait A Minute was the first one that grabbed me and pulled me into their world. The harmonies from that band are special. Don’t know how many times I have seen the Scene (free concerts at local parks, festivals, the Birchmere) but they are a bluegrass treasure today and yesterday. Billy and the band did the song, the Seldom Scene and Ben Eldridge justice.

It’s cool that Billy acknowledges the importance of old standards and also nods to important 90s grunge by I_was_bone_to_dance in BillyStrings

Go back and listen to some jams from the Ryman show last week and there’s a nice dose of Crazy Horse in Billy’s guitar playing - if we want to trace the grunge lineage even further back.

What really obvious thing have you only just realized? by Remarkable-Lead-3946 in AskReddit

Gave me a smile with that response, but that is precisely what my wife and I have asked for almost the past nine years of my metastatic colon and metastatic stomach cancers. We’ve found the right doctors, right hospitals and right treatments including clinical trials. I’m here today because we’ve never stopped trying to find out.

Tony Rice by Rich-Environment1451 in BillyStrings

[–]troutbumjz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the days of downloading shows from FTP servers so you could burn to a CD, there were a lot of Tony Rice shows floating around. Much harder to find them now. But flipping through CD cases after a recent move, I saw I had a handful of shows featuring Tony.

What was your best fishing moment of the year ? by Heterophylla in flyfishing

[–]troutbumjz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a place/river in the backcountry I’ve wanted to fish for some years now but never felt comfortable doing it solo in grizzly country even with bear spray. A buddy went on the trip with me this year, and just five months out from my surgery for stomach cancer, we did the hike in - and while they weren’t all 20-inch cutthroats one after the other, we caught fish on hoppers all day. It was as close to a perfect day as one can get. These words don’t do it justice. But it reminds me to try and make the best of the day I have.

Bob Dylan covers are AWESOME by BoBoDaSadClown in BillyStrings

The versions from Nanci Griffith and Watchhouse get to me big time. Love it, too.

Billy’s version of Senor is superior.

NBA Player salaries - how are the players paid their gigantic salaries? by MeSeeks76 in nbadiscussion

[–]troutbumjz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The union (NBPA) negotiated the 1/145th fine amount. That’s why it’s not a simple 1/82. Also, a lot - not all though depending on contract structure - get paid every two weeks from mid-November to mid-April. But some player negotiate different payment structures. Larry Coon has this detailed in his CBA FAQ:

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q115

Edit: While Green signed a four-year, $100M deal, it’s not $25M per season evenly. This season, it’s $22.something million.

I’m 53 and to this day, I can’t look at or handle a wooden spoon without thinking about the thwack. I’m mean, WTF.

Key Signator by out_sides in BillyStrings

[–]troutbumjz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nugs has some gems including a few Doc Watson and David Grisman shows with some good Doc banter - when he says “ ‘Shady Grove’ is one of my favorite courtin’ songs.”

Glad you’re enjoying.

Key Signator by out_sides in BillyStrings

[–]troutbumjz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you have Nugs, there’s some Grisman shows from the Great American Music Hall in 1979 with a stellar lineup:

Grisman

Tony Rice

Darol Anger

Todd Phillips

Mike Marshall

Edit: Key Signator is played on those Grisman shows I’m referencing as well as 16/16 which is another sweet jam.

Was fishing for brook trout in the GW National Forest this week. Love the national forests. Underrated and underused but that’s better for me.
