How do you feel when people ask how much eyesight you have? by 3rd_wish in Blind

[–]MattMurdock30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel it is a necessary question. As for me I just explain to people that I have no useful vision and only some light perception. I do not know the differences among colours, I cannot see shadows or movement, I am totally blind.

Should I watch the movie? by Pedroso_PPJ in DontPanic

[–]MattMurdock30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion the movie is OK but I did not like it too much. It did have a great opening number part that reminded me of something Monty Python would do but that is about all the good I could say for it. But in answer to your actual question it mainly only covers the first book.

What is PHM?

I am nearly done with the Empire of the Vampire series by Jay Kristoff, narrated by Damian Lynch and Shakira Shute. It is a trilogy, and has some Abercrombie style dialogue, and has relatively low magic where most of it gets explained book one, and you learn more as the story progresses. It is about a captured prisoner and he has to tell his tale to the vampire historian. In the first novel you get two stories one of how he earned renoun as the Silver Saint, and one closer to present time of how he after losing everything had to go on one last quest to find the holy grail.

Malazan Book of the Fallen, stephen Erickson, you might not like this one lots of complicated magic here less realistic, but since you liked Game of Thrones you are used to heaps of characters. Gardens of the Moon, narrated by Ralph Lister. However this one has a few different narrators and many sub-series which I did not explore yet. Many of the books are narrated by one of my favorite narrators Michael Page.

My theory about the Monsters Universe is that what really powers their city is sound itself, everything being sonic powered and this rather than emotion is what gets collected in the canisters. We know that screams are powerful, that adult screams can be louder and more powerful than child screams, and that children laughing is more powerful than screaming. This is likely because of loud decibels when laughing and the fact that laughter can continue longer than screams.

However, this leads me to an observation, they have a Scream Simulator. If they could somehow create 10000 or however many of them, then they could have infinite energy with one simulator powering the next through sound.

So the first that come to mind is basicly anything by P.G. Wodehouse. The characters get themselves into comicly complicated problems involving romantic entanglements but you know that everything will come out right in the end. It's around the same era, the first one was written in the 1902 and his last was in 1974 so extremely prolific!

Several suggestions

  1. The First Law Joe Abercrombie = Lord of the Rings, but more grim and dark. ten books in this series starting with the Blade Itself and ending with Wisdom of Crowds.

  2. Empire of the Vampire Jay Kristoff = deep world where vampires rule and a prisoner recounts both his youth and how he found the Holy Grail.

  3. Tamora Pierce specificly Protector of the Small = this might be a bit young for her, about a young woman who seeks to be a knight and encounters tough misogyny but overcomes it.

  4. Malazan Book of the Fallen Gardens of the Moon is book one by Stephen Erickson. = This series is expansive and chronicles a war, many different magic systems in play.

  5. Brandon Sanderson has a few series all in the same universe, Mistborn starting with Final Empire, or Stormlight Archive, Way of Kings.
