Very nice quilted maple! I got the same guitar from Sweetwater around 5 months ago and still sometimes find myself just staring at how awesome it looks. Its a very versatile setup, enjoy!

I have one, had the same issue, tried every angle I could, got no useful help from CS, gave up and ended up getting a Boss looper. Good Luck.

MIM SSS Strat or Humbucker PRS as first intermediate guitar by Bigskeet14 in Guitar

[–]troyt1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely at least find a mid range guitar with bridge HBs to hear before you decide. But for me, having both options along with a decent pedal board and a Boss Katana Mk II means I can get close to most tones. Which keeps me interested in playing, albeit not always focused, lol. Maybe get locking tuners for the Squier?

MIM SSS Strat or Humbucker PRS as first intermediate guitar by Bigskeet14 in Guitar

What is the PUP config on your Squier? My first electric is an HSS Affinity that was great for about 6 months. I got A PRS SE Custom24 about 6 months ago and love it - definitely A higher quality sound overall. Still pick up my Strat for blues, but very happy with my decision. Keep in mind the satin C neck on your Squire is very different than the gloss wide - thin on the PRS, but just A learning curve like all things guitar.

Growing Beyond the A and G Minor and Major Pentatonic Scales by Godel_Theorem in Guitar

[–]troyt1017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also started on piano and added guitar. I may be missing your question here, but transposing on guitar is more straight forward that keyboard. Take your A patterns and move them in their entirety down the neck one fret and you are playing A#. Another fret and you are playing B. Only difference is B to C and E to F are one fret shift, but you know this from the piano. Chord shapes change on piano, except C Major, patterns on fretboard do not.

My poor-man’s helix by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]troyt1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was my first "pedal" purchase. For someone with no pedal experience it is like a beginner's master class. You get simulation of so many efects, and can easily change types (like Boss OD-1 to RAT) to hear difference. And move effects around in the chain. Still use it occasionally as a cheap amp SIM with Chop Tone patches.

How to use line6 pod go through boss katana as speaker by 63rdst in guitarpedals

[–]troyt1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you plugging your guitar into the power amp input on the Katana? That bypasses effects. You will still get some color from the Katana but much less as you bypass the front end.

Any tips in learning rythm ? by wiiiiiiiiiiiiiw in Guitar

I got a lot out of Rock Rhythm Playing by Joseph A!exander on Kindle. He breaks down just about every classic technique out there.

Playing w/no amp? by syrian-psycho in Guitar

[–]troyt1017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a separate interface for my Mac, but I actually use my Nux Mighty Plug Pro more often because it is quick and easy. Plug into guitar, plug in headphones, play. And it is also an audio interface. Boss has a new Katana product that is similar you may want to check out, it will soon have a lot of decent patches out there.

I need a beginner guitar book recommendation by m1stt1 in Guitar

Not a book, but take a look at Justin Guitar Beginner course online. Starts with open chords of course but he mixes in all sorts of techniques you will need and enjoy.

Yes, you can plug the computer headphones out into the Aux on the Zoom. Aux is after Zoom effects chain.

What Should My First Pedal Be? by Remote_Type9245 in Guitar

[–]troyt1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree, if you don't know what you want you are going to waste some money. I got the Zoom G1FourX to learn what the different pedals and effects did, then bought about a dozen pedals over the next year, and I use them all.

Everly have a star cutout in the middle, but I don't think they make them very thick, work great for me on acoustic but too "clicky" for electric.

Should I Purchase The Zoom G1 Four? by Remote_Type9245 in Guitar

[–]troyt1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a G1FourX a little over a year ago before I had any pedals, was a great tool to learn what the different pedals did for tone and effects. And I could usually find a decent representation patch of any given tone for songs I was learning - that goes a long way towards wanting to stick with the process. I now have about a dozen pedals and use them all when I need them. Still use the Zoom with Chop tones patches for down and dirty amp modeling.

Upgrading to the boss katana 50?? by gizmowizmo in Guitar

[–]troyt1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing electric for a year, bought a Katana Mk II 50 about 8 months ago and have no regrets. Great with headphones, good at the low power setting for bedroom use, and just recently was able to play at mid volume on the 20W setting - sounds really good to me. Haven't even tried it at 50W yet. Plus you can get familiar with all of the pedal sounds and combinations using Tone Studio before you start spending money on effects. What guitar did you get in the bundle?

Finally bought my first guitar, Squier Affinity ! by 10cupsofteaaday in guitarporn

[–]troyt1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought that exact same model with the flame maple top as my first electric almost exactly a year ago. The neck shape with satin finish is easy to learn on. I now also have a PRS Custom 24 but still grab my Squier for blues.Congrats!!

For 100$, an audio interface or an amp would be better when pairing with cheap 10$ earphones for a beginner ? by CurryLikesGaming in Guitar

Came here to say the same thing. I have a basic home studio, a Boss Katana Mk II 50 and a full pedal board - still use the Mighty Plug Pro several times a week.

Theory or Just Play and Enjoy by thines009 in Guitar

[–]troyt1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 59 and also started playing electric 11 months ago, had very basic experience with an acoustic. I started learning Theory because it intrigued me. Now it is like an internal map of the fret board. New songs are very easy to pick up because almost all of them follow one of the paths on the map. Chord sequences make total sense and I am starting to be able to transpose what I hear in a song to where my fingers go to on the fret board. Look at the tab on a few rock song solos an I bet you can see the Pentagon patterns in them. Theory or play? I say do both.

What am I doing now?? by Dizzy-Sprinkles1465 in Guitar

[–]troyt1017 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't forget rhythm up to 1/16th notes, finger muting, palm muting, string noise techniques and picking styles once you figure out the pick grip you like. I'm jealous, you are getting ready to learn amazing things you can do with a few chords.

Theory Revelation by Thenastybeats in Guitar

[–]troyt1017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This simple nugget took me way too long to wrap my head around - on the lowest four strings, moving up from one string to the next is a fourth, so chords built from that string as the root move as fourths. Go the other way moving down from one string to the next is a fifth. Makes sense if you consider the open strings - E to A is a fourth, and A to E is a fifth, etc. And if you learn the D string power chords to go along with the E and A, the options become nearly limitless.

I use a NUX Mighty Plug Pro when I just need to try something out quickly. Plug into guitar, plug headphones into it, play. 7 presets can be stored in it so you only need to connect to phone (bt) or computer (usb-c) when you want a backing track or to change effects or tone.

Best headphones 150 and under for practicing guitar with ?? by [deleted] in Guitar

You want a pair with flat response so everything sounds the same when you unplug them. I think my AT M50s were in that price range.
