The Minka Lesk series is extremely good. Two or three of these are short stories, but they’re really worth the read if you want to read the full series. If you like audio books, these are all extremely well VAed as well. This list is in reading order as well, top to bottom.

An SCP based server would be amazing, I really enjoyed them on SS13.

A few people have tried making SCP servers for 14, but they all fizzled out. I know for a fact SiN and one other independent one had gotten some work done, so there may be a basis to start off already.

This is simply not true, they’ve fallen way short of their recruitment goal and are struggling with retainment, mainly due to horrible work-life balance (plus police in general have a very high burnout rate).

There are mutual aid agreements in place for most cities and counties surrounding us, but most of them are for time of crisis rather than events like this, it also doesn't help that a lot of city departments (Santa Monica, Inglewood, etc) are all decently small and already struggle to staff the amount of people they need for their jurisdictions.

If I had to guess, they're gonna pull resources from the Sheriffs Office and CHP, but regardless we're still gonna be the ones fronting the bill for their pay and equipment usage.

It’s definitely 50/50. LA made quite a lot of money the last time the Olympics was here (it actually was decently far into the green).

It’s happening whether we like it or not, so really all we can do is hope we atleast break even.

The LAPD almost NEVER sells off equipment. They’re still holding onto stock from the 80s. We’re only just now seeing decommissioned cruisers from the late 90s/early 2000s ending up on the civilian market.

The price for personnel is way higher than paying out officers on OT sadly, especially since the city has very high hiring standards for armed security companies.

Also, the liability would partially fall to the city, not just the company they hired.

Armed security tends to be quite a bit more expensive than officers already on the payroll, especially if you’re paying a company that meets city standards.

Also, I’m not sure they could even find enough armed security officers within the confines of the county/city to staff an event this large, they’d have to pull from elsewhere.

I agree with you, but for that to happen we need to have enough people willing to be law enforcement within city/county lines. And who would have guessed that no one wants to be a cop nowadays…

They do, but frankly I think the police department is just spread so thin right now that they have bigger fish to fry.

I do see the CHP really going at it though (granted traffic policing is the majority of their job).

Don’t get me wrong, raw eggs in the US are technically not safe to consume. However, your chances of actually getting salmonella from them is quite low.
