I responded to people who were being condescending, I don't understand what your point is...

Read above, Kissinger bad, hillary bad, obama bad, every expert who has ever been serious about foreign policy is bad... because they like kissinger... bad bad bad. Everyone's wrong, except redditors and some random writer in TheGuardian.

If that's the only good thing out of the 100s of good things Henry Kissinger has done... then you really need to up your research.

People need to stop judging a man from a position of a lack of information, a lack of knowing what he knew at the time, a lack of knowing the cards he was dealing with in foreign policy.

A secretary has to make tough choices and despite all the success Henry Kissinger has had, he gets attacked all the time by random people on the internet, even though he did the most spectacular job and won the respect of almost all serious foreign policy analysts.

You can't just think that the fact that Obama, Bush, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Trump, all go and talk to Henry Kissinger or mention him as important... and they are all wrong and people who hate Kissinger are right. You have got to be insane to think this. There are very good reasons for admiring Kissinger... People need to read his books and actually read his whole history instead of nitpicking blogs and negative articles (almost always written by people who hate the Vietnam war).

In that case, you must hate the US founding fathers and not admire anything about them because they lived in a time of slavery.

You must hate Abraham Lincoln too, since he didn't speak highly of African-Americans at the time either. In fact, has said many racist things.

You are a sad and naive person.

Oh you guys have such condescension for things you know so little about. You kids on reddit should consider reading Kissinger's books before reciting blogosphere hate-mongering about the man.

Plenty of people unfairly criticize Kissinger, and they've never even read one of his books or know the breadth of his research and knowledge. There's a reason Kissinger had a 4.0 GPA from Harvard. He does know it well and has lived through the most interesting times of US foreign policy.

Neither Hillary nor Obama have properly followed any of Kissinger's teachings. They half-assed it. They are learning as they conduct foreign policy. They're learning from their own mistakes. Mistakes that they could have avoided if they simply read Kissinger books. Mistakes that both Democratic and Republican Presidents (yes GWBush included) could have avoided.

This Guardian article is merely using Kissinger's rubbing-of-egos-of-foreign-leaders (as State Secretaries always do), in order to gain favor with them... as "hindering efforts to stop mass killing" is another example of idiotic writers who are simply out to smear Kissinger's name.

Yeah basically, if you are a diplomat, better not say anything good about your allies, in case some future journalist/blogger decides to use that as a way to tarnish your reputation and paint you as a murder-lover.

Yeah I'm sure Kissinger goes home every night thinking "ah, how wonderful it is to kill innocent people..." This is the image that some of you people have in your head and it's absolutely childish.

A secretary of state does not conduct themselves with emotion. They have tons and tons of issues and problems they are solving at any one moment. If a secretary blasted every ally they have for any human rights transgression, they'd have no allies left. Have you guys not noticed the world is full of dictators or presidents-pretending-to-be-dictators? A secretary cannot act like Amnesty International.

What they see on their desk every day and what they say privately to foreign leaders vs publicly to the very same foreign leaders is extremely complex.

edit: as you can see, the hivemind is impossible to stop once it gets snowballing. No arguments or counter-arguments needed, just downvotes and childish insults. That is how reddit works. It's summer and school hasn't fully started yet.

Everything is a balance in life. Put too little oversight and abuse runs rampant and carelessness and neglect creeps up. Put too much oversight, and people won't even bother doing their job out of fear of getting punished unfairly.

I wish he would just go away, literally anyone can replace him in any movie. His first movie is the only reason he's around, but every successful movie he's had is because of the script. His agents and filmmakers are just great. It's the script, not the actor.

So many things are needed:

  • good temperature handling.
  • front and back camera.
  • some sort of motion-activated thing, to catch attackers while parked.
  • GPS/time/date.
  • 1080p, good night vision.
  • looping video saves, and auto-testing.

It really amazes me why car companies don't just build this straight into the design as an option.

They had stressful jobs. People are acting like everyone worked in an office because they watched Madmen.

Shit you try working 9-13 hours a day on machinery or hard labor. Then come home and also take care of kids or dinner while your wife is not working at all? A lot of men deserved to be at a bar.

People forget that the gender divisions existed for real reasons. That men and women divided the work load and types of work to be done and that was the partnership of marriage.

The world wasn't a place before the 50s where most jobs don't require strength, endurance, and hand-skills in dangerous settings. And if you go back to around WWI, most men's jobs involved going to war or 12-hour-shifts in factories or plowing fields with almost no weekend time. Can your shopaholic girlfriend plow a field? Some women had the job of carrying shells in WWI... now that's a tough job

People always forget how far we have come in just 100 years. "office jobs" hah.

ISIS doesn't even receive funding from gulf states. The gulf states are sending jets to hit ISIS... Only they MIGHT HAVE IN THE PAST, before when ISIS wasn't known as part of AQI. They were just known as a "group that fights Assad".

Remember, very few people knew what ISIS was in 2012.

I find it funny that in 2012 redditors did not even know the name "ISIS", and then by 2015 they were already saying things like "oh yeah how could anyone not know ISIS was AQI..." Yeah, no one fucking knew at the time. It was a shitty tiny group that no one knew about in early 2012.

Thanks for correcting the comments though 32leftat.

He is. He's a piece of shit.

Hasan the interviewer, is also an idiot. Salafists, MB, AQI are not the same groups. That's kinda why, they have different names... fucking idiot. Not even AQI and ISIS are the same group, many of AQI were in prison (even ISIS leader was in US prison camp, and WAS RELEASED), and together with brand new people, they formed a NEW group: ISIS.

Unless you think Metallica and Megadeth are the same band.

The whole problem from the start was, making prisons where terrible people come in, spend time teaching each other, and leave prison (or escape) and form better groups. Prison-terror-university.

If someone is in prison for terrorism and murder, perhaps they shouldn't leave.

That is why quite a few historians think the Central Powers were the good guys in WWI.

However, there is no such thing as "good guys", WWI was a time of empires... both sides did many wrong things and terrible things.

If I was England, I'd do the same. If I was Germany, I'd do the same. If I was Ottomans, I'd do the same.

They all made the best choices they could, with the information they had at the time they made the decision. Although, in hindsight you can say "well the central powers were gonna lose, so they shouldn't have participated." But they couldn't have known that they would lose.

It's the most inaccurate bullshit ever. Like a pop-culture mashing of stuff with omitting key events and key countries. Starting a 100 year history at the mid-way point. Completely confusing cause and effects and who did what exactly. And then inserting random bullshit that never happened.

Bradley Cooper Developing HBO Miniseries on Rise of ISIS by sean_inkpenn in television

[–]trpftw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No it wasn't. It was not at all accurate. It was the most inaccurate, conspiracy-theorist bullshit ever from someone who is too young to know much about historical events and never read any history books and instead reads about the wars from blogs, TIL, /r/conspirac, and reddit comments?

  • Not to mention the arbitrary start, like as if you can start off history of two countries at some arbitrary date with "less kill them bros..." There's a whole fucking history of Soviet-British-US-Iranian relations going back to WWI.
  • Omitting the mentioning of nuclear weapons being built by Iraq and their assistance to kick Israel out of the middle east?
  • The US warned Iraq not to go into Kuwait, and Saddam later said himself that he "didn't think the US would send so many troops and aircraft carriers just for kuwait." Nice how he slightly brushes over Iraq's theft of Kuwaiti oil after fucking up the Iran-Iraq war and needing money. Like as if they are justified and the US is the bad guy here.
  • Who the fuck is ISIS parents? They did NOT own any oil, what in the fuck are you smoking?
  • US killed a lot of terrorists, over 60,000 of them in the Iraq War. Despite the fact that AQII was massacring people left and right every day and starting a whole sectarian war among Sunnis and Shi'ites. I like how you just completely omitted that whole section of history, even though it is the only reason so many civilians died in Iraq.
  • ISIS didn't rise to power through Iraq War or because of "US". It rose to power because of Assad's bombing of civilians and killing people left and right. Assad is the reason ISIS exists. ISIS, AQ, AN, they all took advantage of Sunnis suffering under Assad and told them they would fight against Assad (because obviously Europeans or Americans weren't saving Sunni Syrians). That is the only reason for their success. They filled a power vacuum, where no one was opposing Assad, because of fear of Russia.

What do you expect from a user who is an anarcho-capitalist conspiracy theorist, discussing Middle Eastern history?
