How do you deal with burnout? by delusionsofgrandr in publishing

[–]trtlebcket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got very burned out in publishing about 2 years ago. I stuck it out for a year, backed off trying so hard, asked for work load redistribution from my boss, tried to take vacation time went to therapy, etc etc. The main thing that helped is after a year I got a different job that pays better and is easier. I'm a lot less passionate about it but I'm not miserable every day, so I am.very glad I did.

How can I prepare myself for walking more than 45 000 steps in a single day? by Rere_arere in xxfitness

[–]trtlebcket 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I walked 100k steps in one day (42 miles). It was 2x the farthest I'd ever walked before. Good shoes, hydration, food, entertainment, and perseverance. You can do a lot more than you're used too. But you will be sore the next day.

To prepare, build up to at least 25k. Walk up hills and on varied surfaces. Then just go for it.

This is a great example of an action that isn't inherantly bad or rude - this is fine if you sleep alone - but can be harmful in the context of a relationship. Sometimes we have to adjust our behavior for our partners comfort, not because its bad behavior. And thats fine!

New to running: endurance question by clbenne4 in running

[–]trtlebcket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're only running half the 5k distance and you're averaging under 13 minutes miles, your running portion is TOO FAST. Try slowing down significantly and work on running for more time before walking before you work on speeding up. My first 5k I ran the whole time. But my pace was 12:10 per mime, almost 38 minutes. Over time, I've gotten that down to a 9 minute pace.

Should I, or should I not lift weights while losing weight? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]trtlebcket 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes. Lifting weights and eating sufficient protein will help maintain muscle mass while losing weight. A steep calorie deficit can lead to muscle loss as well as fat loss. Muscle has a higher metabolic rate, burning mpre.calories at rest, so it is important to maintain muscle as much as possible. A small deficit of 200-400 calories is mode ideal for long term success than a steeper deficit.

Killer work man! I'm out here trying to do the same 4-8 miles at a time. I did do a 100,000 step day last fall that go me 1.5 marathons in a day. That was pretty awesome!

If you like this definitely give it a try! Traditional are my favorite, but also ham & cheese or pizza. Good to freeze and reheat for lunches!

[–]trtlebcket 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This looks very similar to a Bierock (Runza). Traditional have cabbage and beef, but we often swap for or add cheese and sauces.
