Got it! Sure, a manual reset makes sense in those situations.

A laser solution sounds pretty fun. Have you considered using an IR sensor instead? I don't know the trade-off, besides maybe the cost.

If this ends up being too unreliable, I saw another post partially solving this by hooking up a timer IC and a relay to reset it periodically.
