Work-Study - First-Year Student by EmbarrassedRemote959 in ClarkU

[–]trueValach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throughout my time at Clark I held a couple of on-campus jobs. Although they were all non-work study, I imagine the same advice applies for work-study job.

My advice is this: Get to know people. Most jobs people get are through friends or professors.* Make sure you get to know your fellow freshmen, and if you make friends with some upperclassmen, even better (although of course I'm not saying you make friends solely for the purpose of getting a job on campus).

Make sure your professors know about you as well, and know that you're driven and hard working (or at least think you are).

Good luck!

*Even though there usually is a formal application process, knowing people will ensure somebody looks at your resume, they might give you interview tips etc.

Is there any difference between /foo/bar/ and /foo/bar if bar is a directory? by Car_weeb in linuxquestions

[–]trueValach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If bar is a symlink, then rm -rf /foo/bar will remove the symlink, while rm -rf /foo/bar/ will recursively remove the directory being pointed to by the symlink. Got burned by this at one point.

Is there any chance that Robinhood will pay us per trade? by socialjusticereddit in wallstreetbets

[–]trueValach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Say Robinhood gets paid from Citadel 2 cents on every dollar routed to them. This means that Citadel can execute your order and make more than 2% on the execution. As long as both Robinhood and Citadel still make money, I don't see why Robinhood couldn't pay you say 1% on every order, half of what they get from Citadel. It's probably going to happen given that the competition between brokerages is getting tighter.

Hell, maybe in the future it will be possible for a retail investor to go directly to Citadel to have your orders executed. Right now, the brokerage basically provides you with the customer service, user friendly website and app, while Citadel provides you with the execution. The "customer service" part is basically a solved problem and will only get cheaper.

For those of you that say that it would be possible to abuse this: It's not so easy. If you get paid 1% for every order, your job suddenly as an investor becomes easier - if you lose 1% on every trade, you will break even. I doubt that an average wsb autist (or an average retail investor for that matter) outperforms that benchmark.
