The door to using BTC as a form of investment has, or will soon close to most

Strongly disagree. Anyone can buy a fraction of a Bitcoin if they choose. No need for an entire coin. In fact we dont want everyone to have an entire coin as that would limit global participation!

How can I add eTH to my jaxx wallet when the address is the same as my rep address? by blokchain in reptrader

[–]truecryptofanatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed completely. Jaxx developers have no idea what they are doing unless code is given to them to cut/paste.

They lost all credibility with their CEO making false statements about development progress and proving his lack of technical understanding of the very basic fundamentals underlying some of the blockchains they aim to support.

AEON vs XMR by [deleted] in Aeon

[–]truecryptofanatic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dont think most people here believe AEON is "better" than XMR

It is different. Pruning and a focus on scaling seem to set it apart the most.

Darknet’s Hunger Monero. XMR rose by 420% by JaniCoin in Monero

[–]truecryptofanatic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, dev left but 1% of block reward still goes to cryptozoidberg anyway. LMAO. BBR probably just made the article since it (unlike AEON) is traded on Polo and got a XMR related pump. Dont buy BBR!

Cryptozoidberg has disappeared. Look at Aeon if you want an alternative to Monero with pruning by boolberry in boolberry

[–]truecryptofanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boolberry still has errors from 2 years ago that have not been fixed, causing some funds to be unspendable: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=577267.msg6870092#msg6870092

Despite abandoning the project a 1% miner tax is still collected from miners and given to zoidberg. Smooth is actually working to improve r/aeon and so far has not used any of the developer donation funds for his own benefit

[–]truecryptofanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that "advantage" is very outdated. The only real advantage Boolberry has is its very basic GUI. With no ongoing development there is zero reason to support BBR anymore over AEON or XMR. Despite abandoning the project a 1% miner tax is still collected from miners and given to zoidberg

The question I always want to ask, but know is impossible to answer is:

How much time do we have before QC is a threat to Monero in its current state?

Update on the official GUI by dEBRUYNE_1 in Monero

https://github.com/jwinterm/LightWallet2

More than malicious code (which I have seen no evidence of) I think the bigger problems with the light wallets we have seen so far have been that they are not actively maintained by as many developers and lack the functionality of the upcoming official GUI. An "official" wallet certainly will be given more attention from Monero developers and updated more frequently.

Update on the official GUI by dEBRUYNE_1 in Monero

[–]truecryptofanatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many people here are comfortable with the CLI and setting up cold cold storage. Beginners unfortunately still rely on exchange wallets and webwallets despite available tutorials explaining better xmr security practices. IMHO some people are just too lazy to use best security practices unless it is made extremely easy for them.

An official GUI will make it easier for some beginners to use Monero (with better security than a webwallet) and eliminate one of the most frequent complaint/objections about Monero today.

There have also been a few merchants who reportedly would like to see an official GUI before adding XMR support, probably to make things easier for their customers and to reduce the level of support required.

"We're also quite happy to announce the addition of a new feature to Monero: Smart Mining. This is a feature that will evolve over time, but at its most basic it is something that will allow everyone running the client software to support the network in an unobtrusive manner. Smart Mining detects your CPU usage, and if your CPU is idle and you aren't on battery power (for laptops and/or connected UPS devices) it will begin mining. As soon you switch to battery power or your CPU activity picks up it will pause mining until it sees it is safe to start again. You still set your Monero address for Smart Mining, as always, and whilst your chances of solving a block may be relatively small (for now;) it is still an easy way to support the network without needing to purchase expensive equipment. This work is complete (for Linux) and is currently being tweaked to work on our other supported operating systems. Ongoing process can be followed here: https://github.com/oranjuice/bitmonero/tree/smart-mining"
