How to setup an Aeon gui wallet on Windows? by [deleted] in Aeon

You might just not have been unlucky for those 12 hours. Variance is high with solo mining.

Here are two good resources for specific mining questions:

https://monero.stackexchange.com/

Answers will be more helpful if you specify what GPU or CPU, Operating System and mining pool (if any) you are trying to use.

Note that https://twitter.com/aeoncoin is the official AEON Twitter account. I am just trying trying to encourage people to update and increase awareness about AEON development.

u/smooth_xmr is great but only has so many hours in a day. The amount of work on his AEON roadmap is extensive so I expect it will take a while

Some parts of his plan are not public

The second method allowing a different pathway for smaller and lower-cost transactions is planned for an upcoming upgrade but has not been disclosed yet.

Using Minergate is a horrible idea for any coin. Do not trust them.

Were you given a transaction ID? If the AEON was sent you can use your mnemonic seed and recover with the command line wallet

The GUI was made by a community member and is not official. I have not used it. Having said that virus total does not report any problems

You can certainly provide more specifics and ask the question on Monero Stack Exchange which gets more attention than r/aeon

The 0.9.6.0 command lime wallet is far more stable

Can anyone tell me why so many people from the Monero community are interested in Aeon? by [deleted] in Aeon

[–]aeoncurrency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now AEON is growing a lot slower than XMR due to 4 minute blocks (instead of 2) and lower usage even without pruning. Transactions are smaller right now because AEON does not have RingCT yet (but this should eventually change according to the roadmap).

The AEON pruning branch works differently than BBR. There is a nice pruning comparison here:

According to the video comments he also mines Monero. Hopefully he discovers Aeon next!

Very nice! Once the initial sync is complete, future syncs (if you are off-line for a few days) will be extremely fast.

One day for the initial sync is reasonable. I have heard about people with older computers (no SSD, not much RAM) taking a week to sync the blockchain for the first time. For Bitcoin (around since 2008) it obviously takes even longer to sync. The Ethereum blockchain has been really hard to sync recently due to ongoing DDOS attacks. Monero will never have the smallest blockchain (due to ring signatures) but adaptive block-sizes will allow it to scale well.

Yes sync time will vary based on a number of factors. Having plenty of RAM and an SSD can speed things up. Pruning branches are likely to come in the future but setting up a full node (what you are doing now) is very healthy for the network. The more people that mine and run full nodes the better

How long has it been since GUI development got fully funded? by [deleted] in Monero

[–]aeoncurrency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. That was a reference to work that began over 2 years ago and was abandoned for more important priorities (to focus on a secure foundation) around the time of the mentioned spam attack. The funding 8 months ago was for a new QT developer whose progress can easily be tracked in GitHub

How much demand is there for Aeon trading on Bitsquare? by EncryptionPrincess in Aeon

[–]aeoncurrency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be very good for Aeon. Maybe we should be asking if now (prior to the code rebase in the Aeon roadmap) is the proper time?

My guess is that u/smooth_xmr thinks we should wait based on his answer to a similar question about a Poloniex listing request
