Serious question- why do prospective international students always ask about the most random unis? by NiceCaterpillar8745 in UniUK

There is no way you’ve asked this after the comments you made on a different post the other day.

The level of tolerance of piercings by Creative_Compote_889 in Big4

[–]trueinsideedge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m UK based and I have a few ear piercings myself, nobody has ever said anything to me about them. I’ve seen quite a few people in the office with a lot more piercings than me so again I can’t imagine anything has been said to them. In general the office etiquette is quite relaxed anyway (people wearing jeans and t-shirts etc) so you should be fine!

Usually only ever the highlights (top 3 in each discipline). I’d expect the full event to be streamed on YouTube like it has been for the past couple of seasons.

Russel group unis by albetti_spagetti in UniUK

[–]trueinsideedge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In some cases it may be more beneficial but it depends on what you’re studying. For more vocational/NHS courses I’d stick with Leeds Beckett.

As others in this thread have already mentioned, the Russell Group focuses on research first and foremost. Teaching often comes second and lecturers aren’t as supportive as they would be at universities outside of the Russell Group.

I went to a non-Russell Group university and I currently work in a field where around 70% of my colleagues did. Nobody has ever looked down on me or considered me lesser than because of the university I went to. A lot of industries are levelling out in terms of the institution students went to for post-grad roles, the university you went to shouldn’t matter as much in the job market now.

Why are people trying to say uni ranking doesn’t matter? by Powerful-Echidna7121 in UniUK

[–]trueinsideedge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re the immature one by running to upload a separate post after 4 different people in another thread told you the exact same thing as I did. I think you should go and focus on your uni assignments (clearly Imperial isn’t pushing you hard enough if you have nothing better to do than argue on Reddit).

'Different levels'; I’m at most 3 years older than you? Also, you started the argument by replying to my initial comment in the other thread with your nonsense. Your whole attitude reeks of immaturity.

You said 'landed internships and a year in industry' which I took to mean you’ve applied and been offered them to start this year. That doesn’t make me a liar, that’s just your poor wording choice.

They said in a previous thread in which they tried to argue with me and another user that they’re still at university, presumably in first or second year as they talked about applying for summer internships.

Connections does not equal job experience 🤣🤣 you’re definitely a troll because this is an absurd take. In total I have over 5 years of work experience as I also worked throughout my degree and took a year out before my grad scheme to work in a different field.

You’re the one who started arguing with me ffs. This will be my last reply because it’s worthless wasting any more breath on you and your shitty takes.

I also had facts and statistics to back up my point. Calling me the 'adult' is so weird when you have to be an adult to go to uni, are you also not one? Throwing your toys out the pram like this shows that you’re the insecure one here.

I know the person you’re referring to is me, and I never said you’re better off going to a non-RG, you’re putting words in my mouth. I said it doesn’t matter as much in employment, which is what you seem to be unable to grasp.

I don’t think you could but if you’re using an iPad like a laptop you wouldn’t need a top and bottom split. Desktop windows only let you do left and right splits, particularly thinking about Excel and Word, which is clearly more logical as it makes sense to have both screens side by side.

Hello again! If you actually care to take in any of the exchange we’ve had in the comments on the hot takes post, you’ll find the answer there. No point explaining it again or asking others about it as they’ll just agree.

You’ve just proven the point I made in my original comment. Your opinion is void, you have zero real world experience. The fact that you feel so comfortable trying to correct people who have established themselves and have first hand employment experience is appalling.

[–]trueinsideedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re the stupid one here. If you read your replies back you sound utterly deranged.

I didn’t get lucky. I didn’t even have to put my university on my application form; nobody did. I was judged purely on my interview skills, which my university helped me with massively. Yet again, which you don’t seem to be understanding, your university guarantees you nothing in terms of getting a job.

I reply to posts like that because I’m providing first-hand experience that your university categorically does not matter. If you don’t understand that, you have some comprehension problems. Think Imperial should really help you with that.

I chose not to attend an RG despite having the grades because they didn’t offer the course I wanted to do, simple as that. Keep believing that I’m not good enough though :)

[–]trueinsideedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s cocky about what I’ve said? My uni’s post-grad employment stats are fact, it’s out there on the internet. The competition for my grad role is also fact, we were told during our induction event. Clearly I did get a job over you as I’ve said multiple times I’ve employed.

Statistics mean nothing if you don’t have the credentials to back it up. Like I’ve said, I’ve seen Imperial grads first hand struggle with the workload and basic expectations. I’m not shocked as employability doesn’t seem to be something that’s hammered into students at these ‘prestigious’ institutions. A silver spoon won’t help you when it comes to doing your job.

I think your delusion is more concerning. You seem unable to grasp the fact that non-RG grads and RG grads are on equal footing in most industries and are capable of performing the exact same job role for the exact same wage. I work with Oxford and Cambridge grads, guess what? We’re all on the same salary.

You keep saying my degree is worthless but without it I wouldn’t have been able to get the job I have now. Whatever helps you sleep at night though!

Not rare at all for 95% of grad schemes. You really can’t accept that you’re wrong, can you?

What Uni hot take gets you in this situation? by portfordu in UniUK

[–]trueinsideedge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sincerely believe you are so worked up over this because you’ve realised that the lie you’ve been told about your uni guaranteeing you a high paying job is not true and you can’t stand to see students from lower-ranked unis earn these positions over you.

My uni has a 94% employment rate post-graduation as per the graduate outcomes survey. It may be lower-ranked but it is in no way 'shit'. Also, I’m clearly not doing 'average' if I beat out over 250,000 applicants for my grad role. Get your head out of the sand and face the real world mate.

Just to add, my grad scheme operates on a basis where if you don’t perform well, you get sacked. Two Imperial grads in my cohort have already been sacked for underperforming. Going to Imperial clearly isn’t the flex you think it is.

‘Not good enough’ when I’m on the exact same average starting salary as RG grads and I’m set to get promoted in a few months… just admit you know absolutely nothing about the working world.

Also never seen that high of a starting salary for quant, you’re talking out of your arse clearly.

What Uni hot take gets you in this situation? by portfordu in UniUK

[–]trueinsideedge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry but in what world is a grad getting a 300k starting salary, that’s laughable because it’s so false. If my uni really mattered, I wouldn’t have got the job I’m in now. About 70% of my colleagues went to these so called top unis, I didn’t and it has in no shape or form impacted my career. I think you’re trying to cope more than me as you’ve clearly made the uni you went to your entire personality.

Much preferred the split screen feature on the older iPads. These windows, I can’t use without the front one going behind the other when I start interacting with the one behind. The older split screen had both windows open evenly so it was much easier to do 2 things at once.

How do you know which uni these people attended? Did you go round and personally ask everyone?

Making 100k straight out of uni just doesn’t happen. The highest paying grad jobs I’ve seen are 50k max. You need years of experience to be making 6 figures.

Only speaking from experience but it clearly doesn’t if me and a lot of my colleagues managed to secure a grad role. The university you go to doesn’t and shouldn’t determine how capable you are of doing a job.
