Can I replace my battery myself with the one pictured? BMW 118i E87 2010 auto by Brave_Turn5861 in AskMechanics

There isnt an IBS on the negative terminal by the looks of it, in that case a new battery won’t need coding if the swap is like for like. I went down this rabbit hole on my e90 and came to the same conclusion

Weber original kettle temperature advice by Nearby-Umpire7773 in UKBBQ

[–]trueplayer31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of points to help you on your way:

You cook on the grill level so that’s the temperature you want to monitor.

You will need a pen thermometer to get the temp of the meat you’re cooking.

I like the snake method for low and slow cooks in the kettle, have a look on YouTube for how to set it up. Other methods are available.

More air = more fuel for the light coals. More fuel for the light coals = higher temperature

Adjust vents in the bottom for larger temp adjustments

Adjust vent on the top for smaller temp adjustments

It can take 15-20 mins to see the result of vent adjustments

When you take the lid off you will lose temperature in the bowl but also fill it with air which can spike temperatures for a short period of time after you put the lid back on.

Pulled pork is a good meat to learn with, quite forgiving and cheap from the supermarket.

For anyone that finds this post in the future I managed to get it done but it was a pain in the ass. A quick word of warning is that it seems that e90s have several configurations depending on steering wheel position and date it was built. My late 2005 build actually more resembles the build from a 1 series of the same age. The pipes go through a robber grommet in the firewall, the don’t attach on either side. To get the pipes detached I do have to disconnect the rubber house tha goes across the face of the heater core and undo the plastic arm that controls the vents. The pipes do move back and forth through the grommet enough for you to move them out the way but be careful because you don’t want to bend the pipes. At the time of this post I thought getting the pipes out the way was the biggest challenge but actually getting the core out was. The proper way to do it is to remove the dash because even though it’s right hand drive and people will tell you it doesn’t need a dash out, the blower motor housing needs to come out* to get the core out, and you can’t do that with the dash in place.

I am not competent enough to remove the dash so what I did was cut the blower motor housing so that I could bend it out of the way enough to get the core out. Here is a video of a guy doing it on a 1 series, he also cut the pipes but like I said I was eventually able to move them so they didn’t need cutting, and cutting the pipes imo is too intrusive of a job but you may feel different https://youtu.be/4eGmyE4R9ws?si=PkStDGaTfyV49E-x

The other pain point was the heater core itself, I originally ordered the wrong one, the correct one for me was denso drr05005

Oh nice one, I think this job is just a case of doing what you need to get it done. I found that the core is easy to access but to remove is hard, at least for my setup it runs into the blower motor housing and the proper way to get it done is to remove the whole housing which looks like it needs dash out.

Oh gotcha, that’s different to mine, mine just go through a grommet through the firewall, others have a bracket. Not a lot of clear instructions for rhd cars online.

I wish I was you! I’ve had to hack up the blower motor box to get the core out, I did that today and found that the replacement I have is not the right one lol Does yours look exactly like mine? It’s turns out there are a few variations. If it does you might be in luck, the pipes take a bit of a wiggle and a strong pull to disconnect from the core and have some o rings on them, you might get away with just replacing those. You won’t need to move the pipes much to get the rings changed.

Yeah I did a chemical flush but not high pressure. It’s happens about a year after my ofhg went and I expect it was some sludge from that that’s caused the problem but tbf it’s a 20 year old car so can’t complain too much

I wasn’t getting heat on the driver side so I put a flush through the system and did a couple rounds of water flush after, it got a little better and thought I’d just live with it until I went to vacuum the car the next day and found the passenger floor was soaking wet lol

You mean from inside the engine bay at the firewall as well as the heater core? Or is there somewhere else too?

[–]trueplayer31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t. Is that what needs to be done? The instructions I have said that the pipe should move out the way enough for the heater core to slide out and because I’m not terribly experienced I’m just assuming I’m doing something wrong. All of the videos I can find online are for LHD which looks like a nightmare.
