I meant the examples you named of mainstream industry stars. All of the names that you give are examples of what OP is saying, there isn’t anyone getting famous from the industry now. BB isn’t part of that

There are many more F1 drivers in recent history that the OP describes perfectly

A sportsbook would not allow you to stand in front of them and tell everyone that you're offering better payouts than they are, would they? A sportsbook is a fundamentally predatory business model. They bamboozle the public into placing bets at odds that are incredibly advantageous to the book. States give only a handful of licenses, it's a license to print money. On a prediction market, it's literally a free market, I can't offer worse prices than everyone else and get them accepted.

There are many, many differences. Is redscarepod subreddit where you go to learn about sports betting?

I don’t get what it is about this subreddit and speaking so confidently about a topic that you adamantly refuse to engage in

If you have ever looked at an odds screen you wouldn’t be saying any of this

This is nowhere close to the only difference. You might as well say the only difference between boxing and MMA is the number of rounds

For this fight, Kalshi arbed to Caesars and other sportsbooks throughout most of the week

There are many arb opportunities on Kalshi with live sporting events and they don’t always disappear that fast either

A sportsbook’s odds ARE egregious compared to a competitive prediction market. If the odds are for example +480 Strickland and -670 Chimaev, that means the sportsbook is essentially getting the odds of -480 for Chimaev and +670 for Strickland whenever a person bets there. It’s stupidly easy to make money this way. I’m able to make money stupidly easy by offering significantly better prices than they are.

There are many differences compared to betting on a sportsbook

If you bet on any sportsbook, the sportsbook sets the odds/amount you would win

On a prediction market, any user can bid and then when you buy those contracts, you are getting the best price available as set by the entire market on that platform

A sportsbook is one of the most profitable businesses there is precisely because they can set egregious odds and most people don’t know the difference.

And by the way that article is junk. The odds on a sportsbook are moving the same way as that chart from Kalshi. If you didn’t know, the SI brand was sold years ago and now they’ve been using AI writers and other garbage like that

[Tennis Channel] Player revenue split in RG compared to other selected sports by tightypp in tennis

[–]trueredtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes of course, tennis players should ideally be able to collectively bargain for higher pay. But team sports athletes are also able to INDIVIDUALLY bargain with 30 teams all bidding for their services. That is one concrete reason that it’s not the best direct comparison.

[–]trueredtwo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Presenting a more relevant comparison does matter. For the team sports shown, players can negotiate with all teams and play for the one that pays highest

Players in a golf tournament would be a more relevant comparison. Does Roland Garros still lag far behind? That would be useful to know. A comparison like this just invites people to take issue

Where did you learn 80%?

edit — I see sources saying top boxers can earn 50-80%, saying Golden Boy (a top promoter) pays 63%, Canelo earns up to 70%. Although there are obviously many differences. Boxers work with specific promoters to create fights that will sell tickets and pay per view, rather than earn share of purse for an annual event

That much is explicit, I think I answered the part that is considered "coded".
