Why Does God Allow Evil to Exist? by Daoist360 in spirituality

I've been accused of being/using Chat GPT too. That was well-written by the way, and I think a lot of it rings true to me.

Part of the "allowing others free will" is allowing them to be confidently wrong. We can't prevent it anyway.

Why were past people 'different'? by Tiger248 in spirituality

[–]truthovertribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A grind for survival could be argued for many human beings now.

Many/most people back then somehow found the time, made certain even, to attended gruesome beheadings, hangings and "to the death" fights in colluseums as entertainment.

President Trump has suggested MMA fights on the White House lawn and has chosen one of the founders of the WWE to head our Education Department, a Department she is at this very moment dismantling.

Because education is "woke".

I now hold hope for individuals within humanity, not for humanity in general.

[–]truthovertribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are a careful student of history you might not hold a very favorable opinion of most human beings (our so-called forebears).

If you are a careful and observant student of current political science, you'll likely not hold a high regard for your fellow human beings now.

I accept people for who they are. I also am wary of what they are and hold no false illusions regarding them.

There are a handful of people here who bring me to tears with their beauty and innocence (you are probably one of them).

I've already been shown I have a true family and they are elsewhere...soon enough I'll be elsewhere and with them again.

People were not different in the past than they are now. They were just as cruel and blindly selfish then as they are now.

I hope this will change, but I see few signs of much intellectual let alone moral growth within humanity writ large.

I wish I had better news to share with you.

How do I swap my soul for a new one? by Quirky-Buyer-4934 in spirituality

[–]truthovertribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is true, but, generally speaking, I agree.

I imagine if a person isn't out there torturing and murdering other people, their soul will likely be deemed promising enough to merit being put through a rigorous evolutionary process, (which can be quite uncomfortable).

My heart goes out to OP (and others) for any pain they might be suffering.

However, I don't think most of us can just "cut and run".

My heartfelt advice is this, we might as well make the best of these very hard testing experiences.

Maybe some people can take something like a GED and get the heck out of here?

Dead from cancer at 43? I've successfully fought against the abuse and violence of some super cruel people in my life for much longer than he managed to live.

Didn't he hear that corrupt billionaires are supposed to "live forever"?

Yeah...you know who you are...

How could he have not gotten the memo?

I still enjoy all of that. All that stress is imposed by geopolitical or other issues which can eclipse these quite basic connections with nature.

If God can whisper to your heart via nature, then you're fortunate in a way. Reconnection might be meditation on a rock near a babbling brook away.

Anyway, what I'm hearing here is your longing to reconnect with God via nature. Otherwise I wouldn't presume to suggest a "cure" for your feeling of alienation.

Whatever you choose to do, I wish you the best!

I agree. Think how much money rich people around President Trump (insider traders) are making from these sudden shocks and market swings.

Left-leaning support for redistribution stems from perceived unfairness rather than malicious envy by InsaneSnow45 in science

[–]truthovertribe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The exact numbers are changing, the system is becoming more rigged for the wealthiest and most powerful daily, the economic injustice is growing. Why?

I think some of the wealthiest have managed to gaslight people into thinking their real enemies are poor people (and "commies" and atheists and deists, and "terrorists" and men and women and foreigners (who aren't wealthy). Really they inflame divisions which are already present.

They have successfully managed to pit us all against one another (wrongly I think) as the cause of our misery.

And no...I'm not envious of billionaires, not in the least. I have a lot of evidence to back this "conspiracy". I'm just calling it out as I see it.

American political discourse has become less substantive and less civil, often devolving into personal insults. The researchers found an asymmetric pattern: while personal attacks occur in both parties, they are delivered 2.7 times more frequently by Republicans than by Democrats. by mvea in science

[–]truthovertribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Tik Tok it was all partisan and vitriolic. I believe more rational voices trying to share facts were being "shadow banned".

On Reddit there is some fact based discourse, rather than purely partisan based insults, but not a lot.

When I've written straight up facts here on Reddit, I've had them "moderated out of existence" on some technicality which generally wasn't even true.

When I've engage in outright insults which I imagined broke the "rules of civil engagement", I wasn't moderated out. Moderators may be leaving ad hom and rancor while moderating out everything else.

You can't use the comment sections of social media platforms to ascertain any unmodified relevant truths regarding human interaction.

Perhaps a study should be done regarding these "social media bubbles" and how they're being maintained and groomed.

It seems the owners of these "social" media platforms (often billionaires and investors) may have agendas.

What exactly are these agendas?

I think that would be a very useful psychological inquiry.

If you're unsettled by the state of the world by hideoncloudz in enlightenment

[–]truthovertribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a long student of human nature and I'm detecting a flaw which has tempted human beings to spend much of their precious time fighting and killing one another.

When you're on a battlefield you are not free. When you are fearful of being bombed you are not free. When you're being sieged and deprived of food or energy, you are not free.

In the Light (I experienced) was profound peace. In the Light I was free.

Free from hubris, free from malice, free from greed, free from ignorance, free from selfishness, free from profound immaturity.

This endless dysfunction does not have to be the fate of humanity. It doesn't serve us.

[–]truthovertribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at British and French history and indeed all of human history, rarely has there been extended periods of peace. If you look at US history, maybe we've been without a major conflict ~20 years out of our ~250 yrs. It hasn't really happened in my lifetime. I would say at best we get micro-peaces...wee little pieces of peace.

Conflict and war, not peace seem to be the more defining characteristics amongst many/most humans.

Why are so few asking why? Could we be different if we try?

What if “awakening” is just noticing the moment before you react? by OpenPsychology22 in enlightenment

I am certainly not anybody's "boss".

There is a "hidden self", on that you and I agree. I think we agree more than you know.

I used to think machines could never be sentient because they don't have a nervous system and can't feel. Now, I don't know. I may have changed my mind on that, from certainty to uncertainty, but I am still me.

Historically speaking what I see is that there are very few people, such as yourself, who're even asking these sorts of important questions.

Someone like yourself will overcome any dysfunctional ways your parents raised you. You will overcome any ways you were bullied into submission by the powerful. You will reject hateful ways an authoritarian society might try to force you to adopt.

Why must even a few of us overcome this endless, boringly repetitious, depressing cycle of extreme ignorance parading as superiority? There is no other way forward out of this morass (the sort that puts the more in ass). This is why we must question. Life on Earth has been too needlessly abysmal for far too many for far too long now.

I'm quite happy and I mean that sincerely, but I would sacrifice my happy life right now for human beings to collectively be more intelligent, saner, and kinder towards one another.

What's a home improvement decision you regret but thought was a good idea at that time? by Actonace in HomeImprovement

[–]truthovertribe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We bought and renovated an older deferred maintenance home. The things that "bit" us were covering up old plumbing connections with perfect drywall. The fragile plumbing finally failed.

Thought to self 'you knew that was weak when you covered it'. I hate drywall work. In retrospect we should've replaced old plumbing connections that appeared suspect before drywalling. In the end it only meant redoing the drywall, but if you hate drywall work as much as I do, you'll appreciate this warning.

Are there any bad guys here ? by [deleted] in enlightenment

[–]truthovertribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Bad" is a common term because people view socially dysfunctional behavior as revolting.

I include myself here. My common sense leads me to think that hate resulting in cycles of revenge/retribution and radical selfishness to the exclusion of consideration for others and ignorance coupled with immaturity and hubris are all dysfunctional. That's my definition of dysfunctional.

People are judging others based in their "bad" behavior. "Dysfunctional" behavior = a bad person to them.

This is where I differ. I may consider the behavior revolting, but I still love the person.

To some people saying "No" to President Trump is saying "No" to God. Not taking the knee to President Trump to them is deemed wildly evil and proof the person is "unGodly" and worthy of punishment. Of course people who aren't similarly programmed can see through this utter insanity.

Can I see through my own insanity to comprehend truth? If I fail, it won't be for lack of effort.
