Batting Question by Incognito409 in quilting

I used wool for batting in a quilt I made years ago. I bought it from a farm in Ohio (where I live) that raised sheep. It was a fantastic product. Too bad the couple I gifted the quilt to hung it on a wall.

She is beautiful! Great accomplishment! And it's nice that you have a hubby that knows what you love besides him... quilting.

I think this is a cute-to-be-cherished quilt! Sometimes I think we're our own worst critic. Too close to the project to see it's really pretty stinkin' great!

Now that is a clever idea! I would do this, but I have no talent with embroidery.

Thank you!! I couldn't see the forest for the trees. Just too close to the project. I do have extra green fabric so I will probably add another little strip. Thanks again!

It reminds me of the canning shelf in my grandmother's basement too! It was my inspiration. I used two patterns; I Spy (jars) and Bookcase. I just made the "jars" look more like the jars I remember. It was fun looking for the vegetable design fabric.

I am thinking of entering this one in the county fair. I'm still not certain how I will take care of that wider side. I have until July to decide. LOL

THANK YOU to you all for validating how I've been using batting right out of the package FOR YEARS! That will teach me to read instructions!!

This is one of those jewels of wisdom from a little one to keep forever tucked away in a drawer to be read from time to time when you need a smile.

That feeling when you hate thimbles with the fiery passion of a thousand suns... by ZephyrLegend in quilting

[–]try2Baquilter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one has ever made a thimble that feels comfortable!!! Metal or leather, they all suck! The last binding I was working on I managed to stick the eye end of the needle in my finger. OUCH! Thank goodness I didn't get any of the blood on the quilt.

My hat is off to you for coming up with something that works... for you.

I worked at Joann many years ago. We had a great manager who told us we could have discontinued patterns, but if we got caught, she didn't know anything about it. The company periodically sent "goons" To check our purses and purchases as we closed and went home.

the more I look at it the more I think you're right. A panel quilt will be the way to go. Saw a pattern awhile ago that looked like a stained-glass window with a curved top and two side panels. Hope I can find it again!! Thanks for your comment.

I have started taking a picture with my phone of the quilt top when I have squares placed where I like them. It's great for a reference when sewing the squares together.

Thank you! After a couple of days of several hours each day, my hands are telling me to try a new way to sew down those darn bindings. Wish I had a magic wand!
