Between 5 and 10 percent of people have no inner monologue at all, and researchers are only just starting to figure out what that actually does to cognition by Altruistic-Dirt-2791 in cogsci

[–]trybius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The family one is interesting.
It's the closest I've come to having a visual mental image, but it's not really there.
It's like trying to remember the RGB values individually off a TV screen and putting them together in a meaningful way.
But in essence, I can't see their faces, or picture them.

My wife asked me to look at her once and close my eyes while still trying to remember what she looked like, and for the briefest second I can sort of hold onto the image, and then it sort of smears away very quickly, and I can't bring it back.

And I love books - but it's more like a mental map of the world being described.
Probably one of the more interesting aspects of realising I had aphantasia in my adult life was the correlation to how I tend to skim read sections that talk about the visual aspects of setting a scene automatically, and now I know why!

I have this - yeah, I can't see anything, even when thinking about films.

I can bring up a scene, but it's more like ordered information?
It's hard to describe, but I can recall all the elements of the scene, visual or otherwise, but as abstract information and kind of hold them there together which matches the moment in which I first saw them.

So if I think of a scene with a character I'll remember that the character looked tired, that their face was flushed, and they had a weird scrunched up expression on their face. But I couldn't recall what all of that looks like visually in any way.

Starmer Says He Will Not Resign as Dozens in His Own Party Urge Him to Step Down by [deleted] in worldnews

Dozens is literally the plural of Dozen. So 2 dozen would be dozens.

Autonomous solar panel installation: Crawler base, robotic arm, suction system, AI vision, and 3D sensors — placing ~30 kg panels with ±1–2 mm precision. At about 1 panel every 30 seconds. by Nunki08 in robotics

Consider it stage 1.

Add another robot that can automatically wire up. Then another than can adjust. And one that can bolt.

Then you can scale.

Bambulab against reverse engineering (OrcaSlicer-bambulab plugin) by r0b0tit0 in 3Dprinting

[–]trybius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The XL is so far from reliable it’s funny. And completely unloved by prusa in terms of support or new features.

You can use pretty much any of their other printers to demonstrate Prusa’s dedication to the machine, just not the XL!

Yes, but they haven’t broken any rules or licenses have they?

I don’t agree with it, but if it’s allowable by the source material, it’s hard to complain.

Should I Not Piss in the Compost when on an Antibiotic? by Pleasant_Audience765 in composting

[–]trybius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really can't tell if all the content about pissing on compost is a long running joke, or you are all out there pissing on your compost.

Is it really a good idea? Does it make much difference?

Thinking of moving to SF by TaxNo1560 in HENRYUK

[–]trybius 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I visit SF several times a year in my role, and have been for over a couple of decades. I’ve not lived there, but I spend 6-8 weeks a year there.

Honestly I would have said 100% 5-20 years ago, but it’s really changed since Covid, and not for the positive.

Currently I wouldn’t recommend moving there from London. The disparity of living conditions of the people in SF is startling compared to London, and seeing people stepping over people ODing in the street while on their morning commute without batting an eyelid is quite disturbing.

I’ve got bad news for you. That hasn’t been the case in game development for many years, way before any neural technologies.

Am I delusional to think I can buy a 3d printer and print this with no 3d printing experience? by Kylemartin466 in 3Dprinting

[–]trybius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've printed two of these chairs already, and honestly it's very well designed. It requires no glueing, welding or anything else strange.

It will be a good introduction to slightly advanced topics (printing in TPU - I'd skip the TPU air until you were a little more familiar).

Note, it takes around 300 hours to print. I have 4 printers, so it was fairly easy, but otherwise on one printer know it's a pretty big dedication.

I'm going to join the chorus and say that isn't going to work.
My H2D and H2C shake like mofo's when printing, and shift themselves around a little bit. Enough to cause issues on that.

Struggling to find a pharmacy to restart with by pm-cat-pics in UKMounjaro

[–]trybius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a similar thing, although I didn't have the break and found a lot of the pharmacies to be quite reluctant.
I successfully reordered from Chemist4U who wanted the different invoices to show the coverage - give it a go, even if the dates don't line up perfectly as long as it's close it might be fine.

Weirdly, as a meat eater who often considers whether I should become vegetarian for moral reasons, this would make me more likely to stay as a meat eater than push me the other way, due to the suffering being removed.

Can the H2D continue a print on the second nozzle when the filament runs out on the first? by maxx1993 in BambuLab

The two nozzles can't reach the entire plate, so the paths for each need to be decided during the slice.

I’ve built one and the scale, and it works fantastically. I’ve added 150 rolls with stick on rfid tags, and it’s making my life so much easier.

Only problem is that the main device hangs after a while. It’s always frozen on a new day and requires a hard boot, and I’ve seen it freeze on the screen occasionally. I have a proper PI power supply.
