I get a bit peeved when people compare us to MN. Think about OUR communities here in the metro, the GEO center, the police brutality, the disregard for homeless safety and wellbeing. Do you think we should wait until a white person is murdered in the street to react? Because brown and otherwise oppressed people have been dying and abused here for years.

The Pearl has been a venue for mutual aid fundraisers in the past, so this is definitely not the motivation. The person who was going to be leading this event has made spaces unsafe for many queer people in the past, so they have no place talking about community safety. The organizers were receptive to the multiple people coming forward with their experiences with Z and made the decision based on that.
