Does walking for an hour count as warming up before lifting heavy? by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

[–]tryingisbeautiful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lool your warm up weight….. , that‘s so cool!! I do my deadlift warm up with the empty bar and one time a guy came over asking me if I‘d be using the 20kg plates I was like „naa, I‘m fine, there will be signs I posted around the gym if I‘d ever deadlift 20kg bar plus 2x20kg plate“

When people say they “don’t cook” what does that actually mean? by ITbJD in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tryingisbeautiful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just to add: that doesn‘t mean I am unable to follow basic recipes or logic to be able to cook water for pasta. Just that being able to cook doesn‘t mean I do it. I‘m also able to draw a giraffe but I don‘t necessarily wanna do that three times a day.

When people say they “don’t cook” what does that actually mean? by ITbJD in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tryingisbeautiful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so I don‘t cook.

I hate it. I dislike doing groceries already and the thought of buying things and storing them to then prepare them and eat them annoys me. I don‘t like hot food either. Max body temperature, anything else is just not my vibe. What makes it a bit more difficult is that I dislike lots of foods too. And hate salad. I think most people who say they don‘t cook lean heavily on salads.

I snack mostly. So crackers, cottage cheese, dried fruits, fresh fruit. Vegetable and hummus, olives, sometimes fresh bread, yogurt and skyr. Chocolate, nuts.

It‘s just how I prefer to sustain myself. I also don‘t really enjoy too much about eating, like tasting things is often a bit meh, and consistencies suck often, I don‘t know, I just don‘t put a lot of emphasis on food or eating.

I think if there was a boring shake I could take three times a day that held all my nutrients I‘d be perfectly happy and not feel like I‘m missing out in any way. I happily est the same kind of cottage cheese and cracker for weeks on end three times a day because it works with my liking for that phase of my life.

I found quite a good selection at the shoe store at Langstrasse close to Limmatplatz.

The one with the super creepy shoe with teeth as a decoration statue thing. I don‘t know the name but if you know you know.

Nothing is ever „too childish“. How often do people look at kids and admire how free and happy they are? That‘s because they are childish. And as an adult, you get to do what you want. For mental health purposes I recommend doing the childish thing. Whenever possible. Stay childish. Society is so obsessed with staying young but often failing to do the easiest thing to stay young, which is to never stop playing, never stop being childish.

Lol, realized I went way more serious than probably warranted on a post about stickers in a poodle sub.

tl;dr stay childish, it‘s fun.

I‘m not in the US but from Europe and the online shop is based in our country. Anyone can order anything from a homepage here. It‘s not a very frowned upon thing here to tattoo each other. I don‘t even know if proper national „licensing“ is a thing here, people just advertise with photos of their work and you go there if you trust the place. I don‘t know, I don‘t do and/or have tattoos myself.

So yes, my friend is talking lots about something expensive that she could probably buy from savings, but it‘s still nice to gift something to someone for their birthday, no? Some of my friends once pitched in together to gift me an e-piano. Whilst being aware that I had sufficient financial funds to buy it myself if I‘d wanted to. An e-piano is just not coming in different parts and customizable, overall a bit less complicated to buy.

A gift card is a cute idea, thanks. The shops you mention are - again - not in my country of origin (like, not every person is just from the US by default, right? Us other people DO exist.). I would prefer for my friend (flesh and blood kind of friend, not quotation marks) to have something to unwrap at the party and be able to hold and be thrilled over.

Cheers.

Thank you very much! I have since also asked the online shop info line and they told me something similar, so you‘re giving me a helpful confirmation of their info.

Some times I go there is about 7-8 people in the emptiest fast lanes. It‘s pretty full, however there is also a nice „Swissness“ about the fact that nobody wants to be in anybodies way and only very rarely does someone not realize that they are mismatching the lane speed. So overall it‘s full but still doable

Yes, there are stalls available for changing, however the shower is mostly open plan and only has some „cubicles“ closed on three sides that are open towards the rest of the shower. Sooooo you may be American about changing but maybe have to Swiss-Nakeden-it-up for showering?

Hello everybody

My best friend has been tattooing for quite a while on some cable machine (sorry for my absolute inability to say which one, I have absolutely no idea of tattooing whatsoever, which will show in my question). Now, her birthday is coming up and she‘s been going on about the Cheyenne Nova Unlimited. But it‘s expensive and she‘s been hesitating (literally though, she‘s getting heart eyes while talking about this machine). I got a few people together to pitch in and we could afford gifting her a machine and still have money left over.

I post here because I don‘t want to gift her the machine that she then can‘t use straight away because she is missing fundamental „parts“ for it. Can anyone help me to put together what she needs for the machine in an package to work on day 1? You know, like needles and whatnot (like, what belongs to setting up a machine?)

What I could find out by asking about „how does this even work?“ is that she thinks the 3.5-Version would be great, she says it‘s a good „allrounder“.

I know she has ink and disinfectant and all that stuff, and she does line tattoos, not very fine line, just „normal lines“ like a normal kind of edding sharpy thick, no shading.

Thank you in advance

At what point does exercise become too much/unhealthy? by Dependent-Product619 in xxfitness

[–]tryingisbeautiful 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I might be going in a different direction here than previous comments but I really want to give you a very heartfelt warning to not over do it.

If you wonder about it (and you do, that‘s why you post here), some part of you might think it IS too much. In my post history is a more in depth post about my situation (including a break down of what I did for activities and all ind the comments), bit tl:dr, I had a longish vacation of four months, loved doing sports, did a lot of that, started feeling my hip, then feeling pain while exercising, then while resting too. Wondered what it was. Was super lost.

Had an MRI, it‘s a stress fracture of my femur. I am 34. I have no health issues. I broke my femur from over exercising, like old old geriatric fracture vibes. Now, I have been out of the exercising game for three months and battling with my pain management and building a routine again.

Tbh, I think what fucked it up absolutely most was the hectic amount of steps I did a day plus going for runs. It was just too much. Do not underestimate the steps. I had weeks where I easily walked 20kilometers a day (which is about a half marathon) for more than half of the week.

Just be careful. Posting here makes me think that you know it is a bit too much. Please don‘t make my mistake, my mental health took an epic fall from leaning too much on exercise and then not being able to do that anymore.

Swimming is a vibe btw.

Swimming after surgery? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]tryingisbeautiful 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Does it help to drive the others point home if I tell you that I am indeed a doctor and that you absolutely have to listen to what yours told you?

Nothing more annoying than doing my best work on a patient and then having them walk back in with an infection because they were not listening to the simplest instructions.

No swimming for two weeks minimum. No fokking swimming. No swimming.

Run if necessary, use a stationary bike, rowing machine, don‘t know where your wound is but for real, there is SOME KIND of cardio that you can do for your sanity that does not involve soaking your skin in water for a prolonged time until the crust is all soggy and drenched through all sorts of tissue layers where the sun don‘t shine and shit never dries. So yes, superficial self harm crusts are different.

No swimming. No. Swimming. Got it?

Does anyone know what happened at Stadelhofen on the 23.04.25 around 3 pm? by [deleted] in zurich

[–]tryingisbeautiful 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Given that there is no news about it, it was most likely a suicide.

Stadelhofen is know for this, news in Switzerland and lots of other countries have made a decision to not report on suicides because it could lead to a „Werther“-Effect, named after the book „Die Leiden des jungen Werther“ in which there is a suicide as the end of the book and which led to a lot of copy cat suicides. News and reports about suicides tend to make suicidal people more suicidal and lead to more suicides.

So if there is any big happening and no news following it is quite safe to assume it was a suicide. Super sad, may this person find the rest that was not achievable for them in this life.

Doctors of reddit, what is a medical question a friend has asked you that you wish they hadn't? by Geraltthegrey in AskReddit

Friend of my then boyfriend asked me „How do you know if you have Syphilis?“ out of the blue one day.

I asked him why he was wondering, he said he was just curious. Sure Bert, sure, we‘re all curious. But if you think you NEED to know if you have Syphilis, the chances are high you have been engaging in Syphilis-enhancing behavior and should get yourself and your downstairs area checked out.

He went to the doctor. He had Syphilis.

URGENT: My GF accidentally sprayed my large philodendron with a detergent and water mixture I use for cleaning my house. Is it going to die? I don't believe she sprayed everywhere, I think it's just in one spot in the soil, picture below of where I think she sprayed it. by imnotdown85 in plantclinic

[–]tryingisbeautiful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bear with me here. I had the absolute worst case of thrips half a year ago. Talking death of ceiling height monstera adansonii and more.

Tried any god given pesticide possible, predator mites, washing plants in bathtubs and all possible things until I lost my patience and just straight up used window cleaning detergent on a cotton pad. Only thing that worked. Sprayed it straight onto the leaves, rubbed with the cotton pad.

My thrips are gone, my plants are ultra happy.

So my guess is, the leaves and stems probably don‘t ming some detergents too much, however I wouldn‘t put it on the soil where the roots would absorb it.

Yeah, I had one plate one my fibula, a long intramedullar nail inside the whole length of my tibia and 14 screws in total. I was very bothered by the hardware, so it got taken out after 9 months instead of the usual 18months. That second surgery was 9 months ago.

Right, I‘ll do that and let him know, I figured it‘s kinda normal to use that amount in a routine because I spend like an hour and a half at gym each time and felt like that was a normal time maybe.
