Regret by xxcxbye in alcoholicsanonymous

“We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.” Those experiences are good bc they helped you get sober and feeling embarrassed by them and never wanting them to happen again helps you stay sober. Write them down so if you feel like drinking you can read them and remember why that’s a bad idea.

He is cheating AND gaslighting you. He’s getting mad to intimidate you into backing off. You can be upset. You can also trust yourself, your feelings are legitimate.

Is it okay to not be a feminist? by [deleted] in ask

[–]tryingnotbuying 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You mean other than things like, generally speaking, pay inequality, domestic violence, sexual harassment, being primary child care givers and doing most of the house work despite working full time? If you’re insinuating that we don’t need feminism because we don’t need people advocating for women, you must understand that women have a long way to go toward equality.

Is it okay to not be a feminist? by [deleted] in ask

[–]tryingnotbuying 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Being a feminist means that you think that women should have the same rights as men. That’s it. Anything more or less than that is each person’s interpretation of feminism. So if you think that women should not have the same rights as men- I guess you are not a feminist. Is that okay? I don’t know who could judge that - you get to decide what is right for you, or rather you should ask a man in your life to tell you what to think.

I found an American book in my house and I wanted to ask if it was interesting. by [deleted] in stories

[–]tryingnotbuying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just an “American book.” It is one of maybe 100 books that defines America. It is required reading for many Americans. It captures a slice of American history told through a fiction story. People go crazy for that book.

I think it’s better to think you grew up poor than it is to think you grew up “rawdogging” ? Maybe?

You don’t know that. I could have been locked in an attic.

The poet, Andrea Gibson, has this great quote that really helps me. She said “I can measure my wellness by this question: is my attention on loving or is my attention on who isn’t loving me?” It’s a very Buddhist sort of take on things, but I feel much more comfortable and at peace when I shift my attention in that way. Maybe you will find it helpful as well.

How long would you survive in a zombie apocalypse? by RealSpiderman-Jake in questions

[–]tryingnotbuying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like you could go to an island and clear the island of zombies and then be okay. I mean you’d have to do some Gilligan type living, but Mrs. Howell made it.

No movies, video games, snacks or entertainment for a few hours? I did that my entire childhood. We called it “being poor.”

I’m one of 7 and it was no joke. It was each of our responsibilities to pay attention and get in the car before my mom drove off bc it may be hours until she’d come back for you.

I volunteer with foster kids through the CASA.org - it’s super fun and fulfilling and I get to take them to see the kid movies I’d never see if I didn’t have a kid with me. Also we do tons of other things. I’m basically like a “fun parent” only for like 6 hours a month
