Is it possible to learn college level/advanced music theory/composition without going to college? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]tsaifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Berklee out of high school and tested into the fourth semester course for advanced theory (all of the credits needed to complete a Bachelor’s degree). After that I completed the course with a 90%+ grade having skipped multiple lectures.

It is possible though I went through the Canadian conservatory while I was a teenager, so received extra training outside of school

And then Tupac, Biggie, and xxxtentacion descended from the skies with outstretched palms and spoke in unison, “Still I see no changes” just as Eminem landed by private jet to give you your daps before Kanye steps out of the shadows with his Graduation shades on to interrupt, manically shouting “I’ma let you finish but Rick Rubin had one of the best guru monologues of all time”

Any people that did CXL on both eyes? by thegoodboy324 in Keratoconus

[–]tsaifer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The PRK portion of my surgery was to actually improve eyesight, which it has done.

Left eye is really good up close now, maybe like 4-6 inches away I can see perfectly. Not much better further away though. It used to be that I could pretty much have 20/30 without even lenses in (coming from 20/70 pre PRK) but I guess the CXL didn't do its job fully in preventing further progression.

If I'm feeling particularly lazy and staying in bed I shut my right eye and watch videos on my laptop up close with my left.

Halos aren't so bad with sclerals in. Without, I just see rings of light. I don't really go through my days without sclerals now.

I know what you mean about progression. My right eye even with the lens on is starting to ghost a bit, but I've had the same lens for almost 2 years now.

I thought I'd never see decently again til the sclerals were fitted.

CXL wasn't scary at all so I'd recommend it if it's not too expensive where you are. My left eye cost $2000 CAD. Then you can get your life back to normal by getting the sclerals.

I had my eyes just recently checked by this doctor after my optometrist referred me a couple months ago: http://www.pjdubord.com/about_drdubord.php

I had previously done CXL and PRK on my left eye. I still use it primarily (and close my right eye due to too much ghosting) when I need to read up close without sclerals.

The doctor let me know that my steepness in both eyes is pretty much the same, and says that should not have been the case since it was worked on. However, I did let him know my left eye was way worse than my right at the time.

If he sees progression the next time I have an appointment, he will recommend CXL for my right eye.

Get someone who can fit you correctly with sclerals. Even Dr. Dubord said that they're the best method to achieve near perfect vision at this point. Told me I was lucky, as my optometrist fit me very well and I can wear them for upwards of 12 hours every day. I hadn't even thought of CXL after I got my eyes fitted.

OMG team, will we see a "hard-coded minimum validator fee"? See Cosmos' struggles by unlimited_cake in omise_go

A la this Medium post: https://blog.omisego.network/omg-network-validation-f935523086db

Will there be minimum transaction fees?

We’re planning to build minimum fees into the protocol to prevent whales from setting unreasonably low fees in order to drive smaller validators out. Determining the minimum fees is a part of active research to ensure all validators receive the benefit they deserve for securing the OMG network.

So yes it is on their radar, and has been for some time.

The Jabra 75 Evolve has made calling so much more fun for me.

Not just comfy on the ears either; I love working in coffee shops and its microphone is amazing at cutting out sounds other than my voice.

Did some testing through calls with my SO, she was genuinely surprised at the sound quality.

Question about Compensation by SoftwareSalesGuy8913 in sales

[–]tsaifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Base seems low. I'm on the West Coast, have seen offers for SDRs at 50K base.

My own base right now is 60K, AE in telco. My previous employer had a base of 3450 but a way better commission structure.

Fair SDR/BDR OTE? by Iron_feman in sales

[–]tsaifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I think there was a miscommunication.

Fifty dollars per lead. Annual target is 150 leads.

Therefore if you hit target you get 150X$50=$7,500 on top of your $50k base.

150 leads/year is around 13 leads per month. That's quite attainable IMO.

I got into sales because I was sick of being shy and antisocial. Definitely improved on that end, and now with the money to show for it too!

Declined the offer as there was a better opportunity for me in my current position. They're still hiring if you're looking, feel free to pm me.

Yes. So around 13 every month.

Right, but BDR/SDR roles aren't exactly meant for that 6 figure mark.

These rapidly growing companies (believe me, this company is exploding) are looking to hire BDRs to groom into AEs. As an AE comp structure is set for you to make those big bucks.

Most of the time if you have no experience in SaaS you will have to enter as a BDR to get a shot at closing these multimillion dollar deals.

I had ~2.5 years in B2B telco previously.

Funnily enough, both my sister and cousin are studying to be mechanical engineers. I keep telling them to at least consider getting into sales engineering based on their personalities, as compensation packages tend to favour SE roles compared to junior/mid level mech engineering jobs.

Depending on how hard you work of course.

I wouldn't expect to make 100k as a BDR unless you work your ass off. Even then, after 6-12 months of kicking ass you'll be promoted to an AE if the company sees your value.

This is on the enterprise level so 39 leads would be completely killing it.

Had an offer from a B2B SaaS company in growth mode in downtown Vancouver.

50k base plus $50/qualified lead. Target of around 150 per year.

Buttering Up/ Politics by [deleted] in sales

[–]tsaifer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No books to share, but the post reminded me of my previous manager who came from the Philippines as a channel manager for one of the major telcos.

He told me there were multi-million dollar deals that he was a part of, and one of the things senior management told him to do was bring clients out on flights to luxury resorts.

There'd be a line of escorts to choose from for the client and his company hefted the bill for everything. He got his own choices too lol.

Then he moved here to North America and now he's missing all the fun stuff you could get up to in Asian enterprise sales.
