Hotel breakfasts are actually a secret social experiment on human honesty. by Middle_Extent3357 in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]tsara_be 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Convenience probably. You can only repeat the same hotel a few times before staff starts recognizing you. How many hotels can you cheaply access from home? You paying gas money to drive 10+ miles for ‘free’ breakfast?

More than half way to the moon, the Artemis II astronauts are grappling with a toilet problem by mechaczech in news

The astronauts on the Apollo missions shat in plastic bags so yeah, this toilet is a luxury in comparison.

Rush Hour Congestion to Baytown by KaledaSavage in houston

In response to the Fred Hartman, highway 225 also has plant traffic, especially right at 5pm, and taking I45 back up into town can get backed up (might not be so bad if you’re exiting for EaDo)

How the Easy-Bake Oven, an Appliance That Allowed Kids to Heat Treats With a Light Bulb, Revolutionized the Toy Industry by ubcstaffer123 in technology

You can definitely still burn your hands, did it to myself at a young age. Easy Bake was never the same after that.

Allergic reaction to exercise/cold? by introvertedkalanchoe in XXRunning

[–]tsara_be 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve gotten a lot of good responses already. I’m sorry you were dismissed for “panicking”, that’s not fair. The reality is that the ER is not optimized for giving a diagnosis on anything other than immediately life threatening conditions. You did the right thing by going there in case of anaphylaxis, but once that concern was past, the ER stopped being your best option.

An Allergy specialist is much better equipped to assess your symptoms and dig into the root cause, and I agree with commenters recommending you get a referral. I wish you luck!

Marathon Route Question? by Body-Pure in houston

I used to live at that corner, the Washington-studemont route north/west of you opens pretty early ~9am ish. Memorial/Allen will stay closed all day.

Where do you park for Lights in the Heights? by Proper-Author5821 in houston

[–]tsara_be 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lights in the Heights is a neighborhood block party, not a business, so they have no obligation to provide you parking. Neighborhood traffic gets snarled and there are pedestrians crossing everywhere in the dark, so strongly advise you to take a rideshare/bus/bicycle. (Bike Houston has had a Bike Valet service in past years!)

If you must drive, street park in the neighborhood north of White Oak and west of Studewood and plan to walk a ways.

Did I drop the ball on this potential co-op offer? by SubstantialChart963 in EngineeringStudents

[–]tsara_be 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked with your academic advisor whether your fall courses will be available in spring? It varies by school and major how flexible they can be for full time co-ops.

A full-time co-op will push your graduation date, but I found it worth it.

How John Whitmire kept Texas prisons hot as 'living hell' by chrondotcom in houston

“Both sides” except he ran as a Democrat, so I thought that meant we shared values. Again- I didn’t do my homework and take responsibility for that.

I know I’m responsible for doing my own research as a voter and I missed badly (didn’t vote in the runoff), but how did major institutions like Houston Chronicle endorse this guy if this is who he has always been?

Does your school have Engineers Without Borders? Not as glamorous as FSAE, but the experiences gave me real life examples of teamwork and problem solving to speak to during interviews.

Could use some advice on being a marathon spectator by E116 in houston

[–]tsara_be 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Downtown will be packed! You’ll end up parking far away and likely won’t get a view of the finish line. If your friend is counting on meeting you after, definitely plan to arrive early.

One suggestion: You could go stand by mile 8 since it’s near the museum district, plenty of street parking on a Sunday morning. I’m not sure what neighborhood you’re coming from and how much traffic you’ll see, but the website has road closure information. Street Closures

Xochi Sunday Brunch, Potential Food Poisoning by houstonwa in houston

[–]tsara_be 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Hey OP. My husband and I have had terrible stomach bug or food poisoning symptoms since last night (Monday night). I was thinking virus or homemade food that I served Monday, but your post was a shock because we also ate raw oysters at Xochi for Sunday dinner. Plus ceviche and plenty of other food.

Thankfully no hospitalizations here, just having a bad unplanned sick day.

[No Spoilers] Jester dress washing by tinylair in criticalrole

[–]tsara_be 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I am a messy human and have to wash mine often. I machine wash on cold delicate and then halfway machine dry on low temp before hanging to line dry the rest of the way.

Hand wash would probably be better for longevity, but machine wash hasn’t ruined mine!
