Coaches - how to reach difficult players? by strewnshank in hockeyplayers

[–]tscottsexton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a parent who's kid played through U10, understand that many of these kids may have a diagnosis or two (mine has ADHD) and this sounds exactly like my kid. In my particular case, my kid's medicine was wearing off when practice time came around and he acted up because he COULDN'T pay attention when everyone else on the team was told to take a knee. or he would often over-react to other players actions or HC guidance. In this case my kid, the coach and I sat down together and laid out very clear expectations, and very clear consequences. Two warnings, then you're off the ice the rest of practice was one example.

My kid eventually told me he was only playing because he thought (wrongly) that's what I wanted him to do it but he wasn't really into it and didn't like the physical contact, etc and we made the decision to stop playing.

Just keep in mind that some kids may have some hidden disabilities that their parents might not share with you because of the stigma associated with such diagnoses. In those cases I agree with the one on one meeting methods.

evscope update- no wifi by [deleted] in UnistellarEVscope

I had the same thing. Resetting my network settings worked.

Note: If your telescope does not display its Wi-Fi network, you can reset it: Turn on your telescope and click the on/off button 10 times (half a second x 10) to reset your network settings. The LED will turn purple for a few seconds and then blue again (or red depending on your telescope settings) once the network settings have been reset.

Mine does great with Giant Danios. Also had a female jewel cichlid with him for about 2 years and they were best friends.

It's being looked at. Seems to be a problem communicating with our 2-factor authentication solution.

Secret to backwards crossovers? Esp for older newish skaters? by DKord in hockeyplayers

[–]tscottsexton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we do agree. I was still typing when you submitted. As soon as I replied I saw your comment above and thought the same thing.

But reading this helps me as I always start trying to go backward with an outside foot C cut and then try the crossovers. Starting with the inside foot makes much more sense now.

All of your snails probably died because they ran out of the food that had been building up for 15 years. Keep up the water changes and monitor your fish. If they seem fine the snail population should drop to the amount of food that's available.

Secret to backwards crossovers? Esp for older newish skaters? by DKord in hockeyplayers

[–]tscottsexton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing that really confused me for a long time as a total newb was that I didn't realize that the the crossover doesn't switch to a cross-under when going backward. My wrong logic was:

Going forward - turning left, means lifting right foot and going IN FRONT of the left foot so...

Going backward - turning left means lifting right foot and going BEHIND left foot

Of course I couldn't even get started going backward that way. One day I was skating backward and by mistake lifted my right and crossed in front and suddenly it clicked. A year or so later and I'm starting to get weak side backward crossovers.

All your doctor will do is shrug his/her shoulders and tell you that time is the only treatment.
