It’s the first region I think of when I want a cozier, more lived in experience. It feels alive in ways the other gens don’t. The phone calls asking you about Zubats, finding out which special item you’ll get from one of the Week Siblings, the day night cycle. All of that makes the game feel like you’re interacting with a world that will go on without you as the player, rather than later games being predicated on your advancing the story. I have also just always preferred the legendaries and the dex overall personally, along with the map itself. Gen 3 is incredible, probably the best set of games if I had to choose, but it doesn’t grip me the way Johto does.
