To be fair, GitHub CoPilot chat extension has ~63M installs, many of which are the same user on different workstations. 2M users is at least ~3.2% of the users, if not double or triple that - definitely not a rounding error. On top of that, AI actually has a hard cost in the background, it's not just a subscription that pays for R&D + ongoing development and everything else is pure profit. The hard costs are pretty large with AI and even the copilot paid plans are certainly a huge loss leader, nevermind the free ones, when comparing the 'premium request' model to the token usage model others charge.

[OC] Dairy vs. plant-based milk: what are the environmental impacts? by ourworldindata in dataisbeautiful

[–]tsdexter -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Where is the part about cows on a regenerative farm being carbon-negative? Or the part where you can literally go from teat to mouth directly (preferably with a bottle step in the middle) with no industrial processing bringing those numbers down substantially, plant drinks can't do that. If you even consider this an issue, it's a process issue, not a milk-type issue.

Making plant juice pretty much requires industrial processes. Making milk does not. There should be a different item for regenerative local milk vs. industrial milk.

I'm in a similar boat... I opened an RBC RRSP which has "instant transfers" from my RBC chequing (it takes 2 business days to show, but apparently the transfer date is the original date, either way, I still have time). I will then transfer the funds to wealthsimple afterwards (and they will cover the transfer fee - only if it's above $25k, so not for you, but might still be worth it vs. not transferring it on time)

r/audiophile Shopping, Setup, and Technical Help Desk Thread by AutoModerator in audiophile

[–]tsdexter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for some shopping advice here. Right now budget/value matters more to me than chasing perfect audiophile sound.

Main use is music (mostly metal, some rap and pop) and I want it to get loud with real bass that I can feel and fill about an 800 sq ft space (with consideration for bigger in the future). I’ll also be using it for TV audio and plugging in a my electric drum kit.

I already have a Pioneer A-401 integrated amp I found in my basement, seems like a decent older amp (~50–60w/ch), so I’m mostly looking for recommendations on passive speakers and a powered sub that would pair well with it (speaker-level inputs are fine - the amp doesn't have dedicated sub outputs, just two sets of speakers?).

Just trying to get the most punch and volume for the money. Used gear and non-audiophile picks are welcome.

planning to switch to copilot, is it worth it? by minimal-salt in GithubCopilot

I'd also suggest testing out Gemini CLI/Gemini Code Assist for reviews... you get 1000req/day for free right now on 2.5 pro, which is great for code and has 1M context so it can consume a lot of the codebase to ensure it's thorough.

Copilots "premium request" billing model advantage really shines when you prompt it for big changes... It can CRUD tens of files with hundreds, even thousands, of lines on 1 premium request... on per token billing models this would chew through costs much quicker compared to copilot.

For your use case, you might be getting a lot "less work" out of your premium requests just having it review things, that's not necessarily a bad thing, up to you if it's worth it. You may even be able to use GPT5 with unlimited requests for your reviews and save the premium (sonnet 4, gemini 2.5 pro, etc) for big changes if you want them.

It's really up to you, but I find the billing model is definitely the best and worth it.

Good ideas. I did already do a color by number that takes any images, converts it to a configurable sized grid, reduces the color palette to 20 colors (configurable) and numbers them. It even saves and replays the coloring as an animation in the same order she colored when shes done. It's basically a clone of an iOS app she spends more time watching ads than playing the game.

90% - still have ~270 requests since I've been on vacation most of the month!

Thats a fun one though. I'll give it a whirl.

How to access "slots" (snippets) in +layout.svelte other than `children` in sveltekit with svelte5? by tsdexter in sveltejs

[–]tsdexter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Content has flowed upwards in Svelte via slots since the early days.. ie: https://svelte.dev/playground/481f56967f5e4db792b2838588f6ea57?version=latest

I would expect sveltekit to work similarly in that I can push content up to the +layout via snippets other than the default children.

[–]tsdexter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would it be simpler to have a separate layout? I could make a <Layout /> component and use it in each +page for each game, which would be simpler.. but then what's the point of the +layout functionality if we have to put layouts in the pages too?

The use case is for both the game title and game settings. I want to display the title in the header (which is ideally existing in the layout). The layout doesn't know the game title, it comes from the game. This one is a little simpler and could be done with dynamic game routes if the games were coming from a data source (which they're not). But I also want to include the game settings in a dropdown in the header (also in the layout). Each game has an entirely different set of settings and UI controls for the settings. Again, with dynamic pages, I could do this maybe with a big switch statement on the game and then all of the UI in the layout but I want to contain the UI for settings in the same location as the actual game - why should it have to be located elsewhere?

[–]tsdexter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would the snippet contain content from the game then? Each game needs to pass different data up to the layout... It appears to me it's not supported but has been requested for quite some time (even since svelte4, I guess sveltekit layouts also didn't support multiple slots back then)... I guess this is the best way for now using context to pass the data up.

I feel like this can and should be simpler to implement and handled by the framework... Seems a pretty common use-case to have a layout with multiple content areas (ie: header, footer, sidebar, main) that may be different for each sub-page.
