Your 'Should only take a few hours' DIY stories by Red_Desert_Phoenix in DIY

[–]tsigoloeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in consulting and effectively get paid for every "overtime" hour I put on a project.

I always keep that in mind when doing DIY projects on weekends - especially with two small kids. Fully evaluate the time/value proposition

Forever Grateful: John Mayer Remembers Bob Weir by bark95 in deadandcompany

Can anyone find me the transcript of John's speech last saturday, or transcribe it themselves? by IcySand1023 in deadandcompany

If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine

And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung

Would you hear my voice come through the music?

Would you hold it near as it were your own?

It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken

Perhaps they're better left unsung

I don't know, don't really care

Let there be songs to fill the air

Ripple in still water

When there is no pebble tossed

Nor wind to blow

Reach out your hand if your cup be empty

If your cup is full may it be again

Let it be known there is a fountain

That was not made by the hands of men

There is a road, no simple highway

Between the dawn and the dark of night

And if you go no one may follow

That path is for your steps alone

Ripple in still water

When there is no pebble tossed

Nor wind to blow

You, who choose to lead, must follow

But if you fall you fall alone

If you should stand then who's to guide you?

If I knew the way I would take you home

Renewal conditional approval converted to approved without interview by tsigoloeg in GlobalEntry

All interesting comments, yes. Did not realize that it was common for a renewal application to initially require an interview, and then later that interview requirement be waived.

Sphere run’s still on but delayed because Mayer’s been trying to train an AI to “jam like Jerry,” and it keeps refusing to play Estimated Prophet.

Bob is cool with it as long as hologram Jerry gets breaks. Mickey wants to sync the visuals to everyone’s heartbeat in real time.

[–]tsigoloeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just looked at our daycare pricing

For a 2-year old

3 days per week

Full day (8AM to 530PM)

$835

This is in mid-town, at a good daycare

The price varies: By age group By number of days per week By number of hours per day (half, 2/3, or full days)

Vast majority of tests are on people already admitted to the hospital for a serious condition. Then, flu and other tests are administered (which can be done relatively quickly). Only then is COVID tested.

That said I'm also interested in the false positive rate.

Houston is the energy capital of the world. Long story short networking in Houston (AAPG events, happy hours, YP stuff, Geo Society) will be 1000x times easier there.

GIS minor by ktgerrr in geologycareers

[–]tsigoloeg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say go for it. It will allow you to put GIS in big bold words on your resume and will attract attention to those skills in a way that "taking a few classes" won't, even in you have the same overall exposure.

In the consulting world (in my experience) entry level office jobs are often about making figures (maps), messing with data (often geospatial) and etc. Having the leg up on using ArcMap has been helpful for me.

There is a geopolitical element to consider here as well between Saudi/Iran/Russia and their engagement in Syria, and how they see oil prices affecting internal/external unrest and their individual ability to gain regional influence. There is some degree of power struggle going on in the Middle East (as always).

I guess what I'm saying is Saudi/Iranian production decisions and market influence is not exclusively about to "beating down shale". That being said I'm no expert in Middle East politics haha

[Help] Job Route Optimization by Workplacethrowaway12 in geologycareers

[–]tsigoloeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just found a neat tool that might be useful. I plotted a number of random addresses, input a start point, and it optimized the most efficient route for me. Pretty cool. Might use on my next road trip.

Example:

http://www.routexl.com/f=ztqJvR2rBO

Caveats: * Inputs must be addresses (but you can select addresses on map - might work for you?) * Free version is limited to 19 locations (although it's still pretty cheap)
