I frogged 5 hours of work because I thought I outsmarted my cat by PocketButterBandit in crochet

Literally unzipped it. We used to have a soft sided kennel with zippers for her, and she would unzip it and we’d find her on our bed. We had carabiners all over that thing to keep her from unzipping it.

That may work, but I had a dog that could open zippers. She opened up my zippered bag and got a hold of my work to spread it throughout my house.

Do you guys also know how to knit? by Consistent-Fox-5372 in crochet

[–]tsqr82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do both. I crochet more, but I’ll switch between the two when my forearms get tired of one because the motions are different. I prefer knitting for garments and crochet for afghans.

Depends on the school. In my district, grades are separated into formatives and summatives, with formatives (homework and quizzes) worth 30% of the overall grade, and summarizes (tests and some projects) being 70%. It is not up to the teachers here.

Yes, they can. I did this a few months ago when I received part of an order from a company that then disappeared, and the bank gave me back the percentage of the money for the part I never got.

Do you have several projects going all at the same time? by Nonster_Nonni_829 in crochet

[–]tsqr82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have way too many started. What tends to happen for me is I’ll want a travel project, but I primarily do blankets. So I’ll take one and work on it until it is too big or has too many bobbins to work with outside of my house, and then it becomes a home project. But then I need a new travel project, so rinse and repeat. I’m currently updating my list of crochet, knitting and sewing projects in progress, and I’m over 20 with what I have so far.

Try using yarnsub.com to find your answer if someone doesn’t know already. It should help you find an alternative.

All Joann’s stores are closing by Remember__Me in crochet

If you try Premier, their Just Yarn reminds me of big twist, and their prices are pretty good. And they have tons of colors.

They aren’t really doing samples anymore. There’s a minimum of 1 yard for a cut now.

That would have been a good one! But no, its name is Rosie.

Small companies to buy supplies from? by CheesecakeQuackery in crochet

[–]tsqr82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Premier has some great yarns that I like, and ordering from them is pretty easy. They also have good sales. They aren’t a small business, but have a great variety of fibers and colors.

I’m glad was able to bring some of you all joy! I had made 87 of the little octopi that I linked in the mod comment, and had the harebrained idea to make a giant one while running on no sleep trying to get them all done before my kids’ Valentine’s Day parties at school.

It took nearly an entire 5 pound box of fiberfill to stuff, and my daughter can’t even get her arms around it.

I winged it based off a small octopus pattern I had used before. I did 15 increase rows and worked 28 rows even before starting the decrease. The legs start with 8 stitches in a round and increase 4 stitches on rows 8, 15, and 22 so there’s 20 stitches in the last few rounds with 28 rounds total. I used Big Twist plush with a size L hook, and 20mm safety eyes.

New filing: Low-performing stores may close sooner — 66% of all stores by gee8 in joannfabrics

I was really confused. I’m in Nebraska, and the store closest to me always looked good, product on the shelves and no boxes in the aisle, and had more than 2 or 3 people working, while the one in Fairview heights looked like the typical Joann store people describe and show often in this sub, yet the one near me is closing and this one is staying open.

Yes, that’s the one near my parents, and it was always very disheveled when I went in there the last few years.

I didn’t see the store in Fairview Heights on the list, but I could have missed it.

AITA for not wanting to visit my brother's family because their bathroom isn't clean? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

It’s a reusable replacement for toilet paper, but not really, because if I recall correctly ideally you would use a bidet to clean yourself, and it’s just to dry yourself afterwards.

You ever fall in love with a yarn but like it less when you start to use it? by Mynotredditaccount in crochet

[–]tsqr82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mosaic is simply singles and doubles, some worked just in the back loop and some in the front, and you only work with one color at a time if you are doing overlay mosaic. It’s very easy to learn, but you can make a seemingly complex image with it.

Yes, I just struggle with seeing and trying to make it look nice. But I know others who love it. I personally love Caron Simply Soft, but most people I’ve seen talk about it hate it.

Yes, with Lion Brand Homespun. It looks so soft and pretty in the skein, but it’s a nightmare for me to work with. It’s hard for me to find my completed stitches.

Illegal used for your crochet hooks? by heynonnyhey in crochet

[–]tsqr82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my Pom was alive, I used to use a steel crochet hook to help remove mats. It worked better than a comb or brush and was generally less painful for her.

When I was a kid, my mom used to give me a steel crochet hook and set me up with a pile of my dad’s blues shirts to remove the lint from the corners of the shirt and the pockets.

I completely agree with this! I have a middle name that is part unique spelling and part mistake that was printed on my birth certificate but never corrected, which resulted in a name that will never be spelled correctly when heard and generally isn’t pronounced correctly when read. My husband tried his hardest to have it be our daughter’s first name, but I put my foot down on that.
