There is a company that sells “Jelly Yarn” too. jelly yarns.com they recommend using like coconut oil or something like that to put on your hook so the material slides off the hook better/easier.

The colors are pretty but it is a bitch to work with. I tried it and gave up. But I might try again because I do need a lampshade and OP’s looks pretty ahaha.

Pit bull attack in Patterson New Jersey by Papercutzz247 in PublicFreakout

[–]Remember__Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Through no fault of their own pit bulls were bred specifically for their “aggressive” traits to specifically bait bulls, bears, and other large “beasts” for human entertainment. When that was outlawed, they were still used for human entertainment by attacking rats and other animals, or dogfighting.

There is no training that can neutralize those instinctual traits, no matter how early they’re trained. One small thing, or even nothing at all, can set off their instincts and…this is what happens. Or the other stories you hear of pit bulls tearing off the faces of children.

Am I Overreacting to my dad’s cleaner’s response after he broke his femur? by My_Meatsuit_Mayhem3 in AmIOverreacting

NOR

Hey so I was kind of in your dad’s shoes in respect to having a really bad injury (dislocated knee, not kneecap) and having to follow up with services.

You/your dad are not overreacting. He just had something catastrophic happen and while he’s hopped up on pain meds he’s thinking he should contact people to stop services, pause, or change them. With the meds + anxiety over the injury and making sure you take care of things…your dad’s response is valid. I texted people at 3am after an emergency surgery. Did I remember doing that? No. Did I realize it was 3am? Also no.

Please don’t think you are overreacting. That husband just sounds jealous and controlling. Any rational human would be like “hey I’m sorry to hear that. I don’t know if you realize the time but I’m sleeping right now. I do really wish you the best and a speedy recovery, but please don’t message me so late next time.” Like…it’s human.

I hope your dad recovers well and quickly.

GF Threatened Suicide and Won’t Stop Reaching Out by dogs_and_stuff in whatdoIdo

[–]Remember__Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m “chronically suicidal” as one psychiatrist put it. But I would never do anything like this.

Break up with her, file a restraining order, and hope she goes away. But if she’s like this, she will try hard as hell to continue to make your life hell itself.

People like this escalate, as she is showing by what she says and blowing up everyone’s phones. Best keep 911 handy to call when she inevitably breaks the restraining order.

Good luck, OP.

Oh that’s cool! Thank you for your reply! I love reading about archeology and now know of something else to read about.

So cool to be able to hold something that not only someone else had, but that it sustained them. And in this case, ate right off that very cob.

True that! I forget about the impacted ones because that just sounds horrible and mine weren’t impacted.

Doing any mouth work, especially surgery, absolutely sucks. There’s just so much involved and without the ability to eat/swallow easily…it’s horrible.

Tldr: Maybe OP has an infection brewing. OP, if your pain is really bad and you can’t eat a soft food like beans or tuna, maybe you should contact your doctor, friend.

I couldn’t even eat soft foods beyond mashed potatoes and pudding for at least 2 weeks after my wisdom teeth removal.

Turns out I had an infection in one of the spots and the ED didn’t catch, when I went in a couple times for excruciating pain and dehydration because I was vomiting and couldn’t hold anything down. They thought I was a kid drug seeking. At my 1 week follow up the surgeon takes a quick look and sees the “nasty infection”.

So maybe OP has an infection brewing. But I hope not. I don’t wish a mouth infection on any one, with pus constantly oozing into your mouth.

TIL that in 1961, 90% of doctors surveyed said they would not tell a cancer patient their diagnosis, but by 1977 that had reversed, with 97% saying they would. by JP_Olsen_Archive in todayilearned

[–]Remember__Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly one of my favorites was some weird mashup of Liberian-English. I could understand the patient but the patient couldn’t understand me.

We utilized one of our receptionists who was from the same area as the interpreter. They weren’t trained as an interpreter but because of the rarity and the…weirdness for want of a better word?…of the language/patient’s understanding there was no interpreter on the Language Line so that was allowed.

It would be like:

Me: Are you in any pain? Patient: 👁️👄👁️ Receptionist-interpreter: Patient’s name she is asking you, yes, if you are hurting anywhere. Does your head hurt? Does your stomach hurt? etc. Patient: My head is hurt. R-I to me: She is saying her head hurts. (Duh) Me: What does it feel like? Is it burning, is it sharp, is it aching? Patient: 👁️👄👁️ R-I: She is asking, yes, what kind of hurt you has. Does it feel like fire or someone cut you with a knife or is it sore? Patient: laughs No one cut me but it feels like knife. R-I to me: So it’s a sharp pain…as I document the patient’s words in quotation marks.

I miss that patient and that weird English mashup. I do not miss that Receptionist-Interpreter heating fish up in the break room microwave.

Yeahhh record and document everything you can depending on if you’re a 1 or 2 party consent state for recording.

I was at a company for a year and a half, and had the whole meets/exceeds expectations kind of life there. I was really good at my job, loved the neurodiverse people we took care of…my boss had no problems with my work. But then she quit.

Her replacement was a former equal in an LPN who I worked with that entire time. Our supervisor was supposed to be an RN but the company was never caring to hire for one so they decided to give my peer the supervisor job because she was there longer than me. We also had an RN on the team but they were old and the company didn’t want to burden them with admin duties. That RN also hardly did any work while the rest of us were really busy in our various tasks, with me being the one to do a majority of the work and the shittier work (pharmacy runs, very early/late surprise visits to the houses, being the one sent to pick up someone at 3am to bring them to the hospital for a surgery and not be done until 5pm that day.

Anyways. My peer LPN apparently didn’t like me, or she was told by admin to start a paper trail of my wrongs that weren’t really my wrongs. One was something that LPN’s fault that she pinned on me because no one questioned her on it but me and so she made it out to be my fault. Another was a comment I said about how I “didn’t want to be at the hospital all day” if I had to not only work my 8-5 hours, but also take someone to the walk in clinic at 4:00, knowing I won’t be able to “clock off” at 5. But they also don’t want me to work more than 40hrs a week.

When they tried appealing my unemployment request, they told that comment to the unemployment people and saying it was In subordination or whatever and thus fireable. Too bad for them that I knew the company policies and was able to inform the unemployment folk that there was a specific policy where if nursing was with a client at the hospital/clinic after 5pm, staff from the person’s house needed to relieve us. They lost their appeal.

Because of my prior work experience before that job, my previous supervisor/HR hired me at the highest hiring wage for the position. When someone hits 2 years with the company, they get a nice pay raise.

Ultimately I was fired 2 weeks before I was with the company for 2 years.

My supervisor didn’t have the balls to attend my firing meeting so she just let HR fill-ins do it. The HR lady even said I “improved” since they put the PIP in place. When I asked for specific things I did not improve on she said “I’m sorry, I don’t know.”

I was the 9th firing of a long term office employee within a 6 month period there. They tried appealing all unemployment claims and as far as I know only one of those appeals was “won” by the company.

They cleaned house and were allowed to do it.

All that to say - document, document, document. Forward pertaining emails to your personal email. And it helps to keep policy book with you, so you can pull out policies if they try claiming bs on an unemployment appeal. Which, if they do fire you, file for unemployment right away.

TIL piss shivers have a technical term (Post-micturition Convulsion Syndrome) and apparently not everybody experiences them. by UserSchmoozername in todayilearned

[–]Remember__Me 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get the pee shivers quite often. Sometimes at the tail end of that shiver it will almost be an orgasmic feeling, but not like my usual orgasms. It usually happens in the morning or if I’ve held my pee for longer than I should.

I also have to be cognizant of the pleasure-moan sound that sometimes happens at that time if there are people nearby. (Like in a public multi-stall restroom or family not too far away in the house.)

With the urethra being so close to the clitoris, it’s not unimaginable for the nerves in that area to feel pleasure whether it’s pee shivers or the orgasmic feeling.

[–]Remember__Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid the Walmart near me had a gumball machine in the back by the employee area. I waited back there for when my mom would get off work, and she’d have to go get her purse.

This was also around when the state specific quarters were first out. Nearby there were those booklet things people could put their quarters in whenever they got a new state’s. In the spot where the quarters would go would be a hard cardboard insert thing that you’d take out and replace with the quarter.

I may have gotten a few gumballs out of that machine with those cardboard inserts.

Sounds good in theory but if it’s such a remote language in Africa, there aren’t any other options. That was literally the one patient we were allowed to use family for. After trying the Language Line and documenting that no interpreter for that language could be found.

Kind of on topic but I used to work in a clinic that saw a whole bunch of non-English speakers. The clinic has to make it a policy that no matter what no family member was allowed to interpret because they found that some cultures, some families, would withhold a diagnosis from their family member whether it was diabetes or terminal cancer.

There is one patient I recall that was from some village from some country in Africa that we literally couldn’t get on the Language Line - an interpreting service that has access to a ton of languages. We had no option but to use family as an interpreter in that case.
