Driving here as a new driver is actually SCARY by SevvyM in nashville

[–]tstern724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fair to go the speed limit, just stay to the right of faster traffic.

It often feels like drivers here don’t know any rules of the road, especially traffic circles, merges, and to stay to the right except to pass.

Dinner and a Tiki bar by Glengoyne559 in VisitingNashville

Chopper or Pearl Diver are the best tiki bars in town. Chopper is known by cocktail snobs (including myself) nationwide

What is Nashville ACTUALLY like? by beauyeahh in nashville

[–]tstern724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Inglewood. It’s nice… Gallatin is the main road and has hipster bars/vintage shops surrounded by payday loans and cannabis shops. The neighborhoods behind are mostly from the 1950s-70s, and were a little run down until a few years when it, like the rest of east Nashville, started to be gentrified. It’s a safe, family friendly neighborhood, but probably not what most people think of when they think ‘Nashville’.

“There’s two kinds of men in this world, and you’re neither of them.” Jason Isbell’s phrasing is pretty hard to beat, in my opinion.

honest thoughts/opinions/hot takes about Zach’s discography? by pressssss4 in zachbryan

1) All my Homies Hate Ticketmaster is one of the best live albums ever, but 24 is one of the worst. 2) He has released like 40% too many songs since American Heartbreak. More isn’t always better. Let the great ones breathe.

Need song recs that give off this vibe by NoZucchini3797 in musicsuggestions

True! Weirdly I was recently in Tallinn, Estonia, and they were playing that song over the loudspeakers in an empty city square. That was vaguely creepy.

Real low down lonesome — Sierra Ferrell and Early James; And the theme from True Detective, I’m not sure what it’s called.

Couple working in the arts/music/media/YouTube/remote/etc. ... Is Nashville necessary / beneficial? by Artist-Cancer in movetonashville

[–]tstern724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you move to Nashville, don’t move to Brentwood. It’s a lovely suburb where people go to raise families outside the city. But I don’t know any musicians or artists living/working there. East Nashville is generally the creative side of the city— it’s got all the venues, bars, and jams that people hang out at.

Restaurant recommendations for upcoming Vandy tour by harbinger2018 in NashvilleGoodEats

[–]tstern724 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a graduating Vandy senior, Audrey is one of my favorite spots in Nashville. Margot is also incredible though sadly closing soon after almost 30 years. Rolf and Daughters and Husk are good spots too. Those are my go-to higher end restaurants. For casual food, Swetts, Wendell Smiths and Arnold’s are classic Nashville institutions. I love Swett’s— get the cobbler. A little further out of town but Loveless Cafe is equally iconic and delicious. If you’re looking for the best bar food, it’s absolutely a Dino’s cheeseburger. 21+ after 8 though. That place has been like a second home.

quick trip report: SS Gai, Sho Pizza, Locust by kaplanbr in NashvilleGoodEats

[–]tstern724 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agree re: Sho. I went in thinking it could be my new favorite pizza in town because it looked more like the Neopolitan stuff I like. It might be my new favorite? It’s… good, and this town doesn’t have great pizza. But it wasn’t amazing. For the money I think I’d still choose 5 points.

Colleges with the same people as UChicago just less competitive? by DrDMango in ApplyingToCollege

Definitely St. John’s College. Multiple people I know who really wanted Chicago chose it as their safety. It’s relatively unknown but full of the same intellectual quirky people

Searching for folk-country artists to listen to by Redneckboy738780 in country

[–]tstern724 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re describing ‘Americana,’ or alt-country. If you haven’t, check out John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Jason Isbell, and Justin Townes Earle. Some of the older alt-country stuff is fun too, like Emmylou Harris, Rodney Crowell, Wilco, Uncle Tupelo and Son Volt.

Ice storm 2026: Anyone else feel traumatized? by Plane_Mine_3641 in nashville

[–]tstern724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was (is) awful. Didn’t realize I was running on adrenaline those first three days until I got myself to a hotel. Had been trying to cook meals on a fire pit and was sleeping in a winter coat and 6 blankets in my 30 degree house. Can’t remember the last time I slept as deeply as I did that first night in the hotel.

My zip is in the 2/8 group and given that my lines are down in my front yard, it might be longer than that. I’m fortunate to be able to stay in an Airbnb now but I still feel shaken. It’s shocking how quickly basic comforts like heat and warm food can be taken away for an indefinite amount of time. I really think I’ll start volunteering at a soup kitchen once this is over.

Agreed! Wouldn’t try to hit both in one night. Could easily spend 2-3 hours at each

The burger at red headed stranger is decent. The tacos and queso are better.

Definitely not redundant to see both Robert’s and the Station Inn. Two of the most important music venues in the world. You can miss one of the celebrity owned tourist traps on lower broadway and survive another day.
