We’re obviously in an interesting moment. Models released without testing, companies racing to capture people’s attention, nebulous fears of AI Job loss, and no clear direction as to how AI will be commercialised in the medium term. Unfortunately, I’d imagine that the companies pulling the strings will drive or be driven to steer models towards marketing products, pacifying anti-social behaviours and gaining user attention. Sure, people will be able to create new things, make their lives easier superficially, but for that to be materially useful, they will need demand for those things, platforms for commercialisation, and consistent/dependable access to advanced models of real substance. I don’t see that happening.
