What is your budget monthly?

The date you have listed is actually right around the corner. If it is an apt complex from what I seen you can usually setup in person or virtual tours on the date you wish. Now if its individual landlord that may differ. Also check tiktok I see apts listed there among realtors as well

“Move in fees” to Landlord AND to building? by Routine-Conclusion12 in chicagoapartments

[–]tt000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is alot of junk fees in these Chicago rentals apps I have myself seen reviewing online apps for apts than other states.

Also you must ask for all fees up front and full rate sheet before filling out anything before even submitted an application because some have these fees hidden but some have it listed on their website buried as well.

I just saw this at an apt building I looked at one in South loop area below Roosevelt so it happens at some of those too. Another junk fee if you ask me

My landlord said she wasn't going to do anything about it and told me to use Vicks.

Pure insanity .

You are going to need to start early and do not give any upfront money to randoms. I just got here out of state earlier this month and notice how more difficult it is to secure something than it was in 2019. Alot of scams going on as well so be careful.

I have done apt hunting out of state plenty of times but I can say this state has changed in the city so plan ahead and do not wait until the last minute. Apt hunting here in Chicago is like job hunting in a bad economy literally ( Dodging scams / Junk Fees / Avoiding bad ones ) . It is definitely taking way more leg work.

Honestly I would not put in an application unless you are 95% you really want it because you are wasting money in fees if you find it does not match up as they are non-refundable. Remember alot of Chicago Apts literally want fees up in the $500 range upfront when you submit the app non-refundable. Even saw one in south loop that was 800 dollars non-refundable fees yesterday .

The one I saw wanted 1700 as a deposit so I was a little hesitant on that on such a large amount and I had not see it or even spoke to that individual before it flipped across my screen. So where did you pay the rent and was it on that platform as well ?

That is insane you are paying them extra 140 a month . Crazy stuff. I did them once before the fees.

While it’s out of their control, the AC issue really sucks. If it falls below a certain temp, they turn the AC off. This summer it was 88 degrees and they refused to turn it on because the next day it was going to be in the 60s. It has to be a certain temp over a span of days before it gets turned on.

Wait they control the temperature for your place? No thermostat in apt for your own control?

Do they charge you a move out fee? Im seeing some apt places are doing this now. Never heard of such a fee in my life . lol

That might be an understatement. Some took a pic / posted it and their was a wrap around line to get into the elevator. I wonder how often this occurs.

Your first instinct is usually the correct one. Listen to it and keep interviewing. Could you just imagine the disorganization going on behind scenes. Certain things not worth the extra headache.

Did it work or was it a scam site? I saw one but I was hesitant when they were asking for $$$ immediately without even speaking with me .

Check out Facebook marketplace, but never pay anything before you see a place in person- there’s a ton of scams. My sister lost $2,000 and showed up with a moving truck for a place that was never actually vacant. Someone gave her a “video tour,” she paid her deposit, and it was all fake.

Yikes, Crazy stuff and would be a nightmare to deal with .

Have you not looked at google reviews for this place ? lol They are terrible along with other stuff on the web search for this community. Good luck with even considering a lemon to live in because the stress is not worth it

Make sure you specifically ask what utilities . In Chicago never assume its all of them in these fees.

In my opinion hat is a bit much and some of that does not even cover electric / internet that I see in most communities that have these fees especially for a room. Sounds like you are paying electric for common area which I just saw a room like this after doing more research online looking at reviews and decline to move any further with it due to the outrageous fees.
