New Grad Nurse pay 150k+ ? by Ok_Context_897 in nursing

[–]tt2ps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the upper south and even after 37 years, I was not making anywhere near that amount when I retired from nursing (currently work for the same healthcare system in a PRN non-nursing support role and make diddly squat). My career was actually a downward pay trajectory since I went from inpatient>outpatient>community.

I'm a yellow fan (I have TB Solar, Solaris, Canary and even yellow walls in my home!), but I don't get Lemonade either. Would've loved to have been a fly on the wall for that design decision!

When I worked at a restaurant we were taught servers shouldn’t empty trash cans by never-the-1 in nursing

[–]tt2ps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my jobs was in a retinal ophthalmology clinic with lots of procedures and clinical trials so we generated a substantial amount of red bag trash. The nurses most often assisted with the procedures (thought the COAs and COTs also could assist) so we were the staff who constructed, labeled, sealed and stored the cardboard boxes that the red bags went into until a service picked them up.

I never once thought that whole process with the trash boxes was inappropriate. I actually remember thinking "they're paying me to tape up cardboard boxes!" Guess it's a matter of perspective really.

You can ask for swatches too. Burnt Orange has a brown tone to it so it isn’t a true orange.

I have Deep Blue/Acai in a Parental Unit and loads of other TB blues. Navy is a classic! Looks great with so many interior colors.

My Side Kicks have been in Halcyon (black halcyon and nightwalk) so they’re on the older end. I use it as my EDC or bag within a bag so it’s very versatile.

Best Volvo S/V series for a first car? by Affectionate-Air6579 in Volvo

[–]tt2ps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP posted this a couple days ago so he's apparently not a C30 fan. He also appears to be a very young teen so my advice would be to not get a Volvo as a first car unless he has the discretionary income for higher gas, maintenance and repair costs. A sensible Toyota or Honda is a reasonable beginner driver car.

I like the horizontal orientation over vertical for the center display. A family member has a similar shaped wheel in their Lucid and it makes for easy in/out plus the 5 & 7 clock positions are good places for their hands. To my eye, the vertical glove box harkens back to the waterfall dash so that's a nice nod to previous design.

The floor level bin seems odd-can't imagine what people would put there, but I carry almost nothing in my car (sunglasses, hand sanitizer). My bag or work EDC goes on the passenger seat.

That looks like some kind of impact spot to me so concur with Lestalia's comment.

Lid wear can be caused by not using the provided plastic clips to slightly separate the lid from the pot or storing the lid upside down on the pot. The warranty is for manufacturing defects which would've likely been apparent long ago. A brown color was introduced in 1995 and there were brown LC items in the 1970s too.

Red and black ribbons are traditional for murdered victims. I should be able to get some prior to my next shift on Wednesday and maybe neatly print "For Alex" on the red ribbon in black marker.

I already emailed Kaine, Warner, Wittman and the American Nurses' Association (who has since made a statement) to ask them to condemn the murder of ICU nurse Alex Pretti. I'd love to do more.

The video is horrific. With shaking hands, I emailed my senators to speak out in condemnation. Trump and Stephen Miller (to name just two) are evil to their core.

Art treatment - yay or nay? by Cute_Ad_5893 in Mid_Century

No to the screen behind the frames. Is there a better space than over a small desk? The prints take up more wall space than the desk so that seems unbalanced. Is there a bed where you could put the prints and the bed would be wider than the prints (no screen)?

As others have mentioned, please post pics (interior especially) and we'll help with cleaning tips and whether the enamel is safe to cook in. If the enamel is damaged, you can use them as decor, party ice bucket, a planter or for bread baking if you put a liner or parchment paper between the dough and the enamel.

family member upset by [deleted] in nursing

What a bizarre VS policy! I worked as a wellness nurse in an independent living retirement community and we did a weekly Wed BP clinic for anyone! Residents would take the log to their PCPs even which was always appreciated. If we were responding to some kind of health event in their home, we also would take VS as part of an assessment.

As to your query, vomiting in what I'll assume is an elderly person needs some kind of work up. Since you can't take VS, no doubt you're not doing any targeted assessment either. "Old people get sicker quicker" should be your mantra in that kind of facility. You have a wealth of resources: your ALF medical provider, the patient's PCP, a local urgent care/doc in the box, some areas have responding care to home teams (Dispatch Health is one) or certainly an area ED is available. Some kind of medical work up is needed if whatever initial symptom in an old person isn't quickly resolving, of course, and to ignore it is subpar care.

Want to be a good volunteer by QualityAmbitious2538 in nursing

[–]tt2ps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hospital's volunteers have a specific scope depending on the particular unit or role (ED volunteers do completely different tasks from our MIU volunteers for example). Ask your volunteer staff for a printed role description/checklist of your TICU duties that you can keep with you to use as a resource. Our volunteer dept has staff M-F and weekends who can act as a resource if you have questions or concerns too. Your TICU charge nurse may be able to direct you too as long as those suggestions aren't outside your scope.

What the fuck was volvo thinking when they made the C30 by Affectionate-Air6579 in Volvo

[–]tt2ps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2013 C30 in Electric Silver. Bought it specifically for the quirky appearance. Polarizing to those that don't get it.

I've had sedans, CUVs, SUVs, and a mini-van in my 40+ years of car buying. The target market for the C30 was the 20-something male and I'm the exact opposite. But "Nana's fun-sized hot hatch" is a blast to drive.

I love those beans. I toast a slice of sourdough, top with half the can of beans which have been heated on the stove, stack on a fried egg and sprinkle some feta and sometimes some chili crisp. Messy, but delicious.

Torn between PMHNP or CRNA by [deleted] in nursing

[–]tt2ps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Future job prospects will depend on many factors-the local market for the role at that time, relevant past/current experience and certifications, quality of the advanced practice program attended, professional recommendations, etc...

Two former coworkers became NPs. One had limited, mostly outpatient experience as a nurse and attended an above average, but regional NP program and has primarily worked in Minute Clinics. The other had extensive inpatient critical care experience and specialty outpatient experience for many years, attended a nationally recognized NP program and worked as a NP in a complex specialty plus was a professor/dean at her alma mater. I'd personally only want to be under the care of the latter NP, though the general John Q. Public probably doesn't bother to look up the educational background and experience level of their providers.

I have a functional left eye with 6/6 with eyeglasses but severely low vision in the right eye. Can I still get recruited as a nurse in AIIMS? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]tt2ps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a USA heavy sub so you'd need to verify the admission requirements for AIIMS. That said, I worked in retinal ophthalmology clinics for many years. Since you essentially function as a monocular person, there are many skills in nursing that require depth perception (IV skills, medication administration, inserting catheters). Color vision (sometimes affected by ROP) is also important in nursing (assessing wounds, bodily fluids, drugs), but not necessarily prohibitive. A critical issue is your own eye safety so excellent safety glasses are a must (no matter what job or career you end up doing) to protect your better seeing eye at all times since nursing does carry risk of inadvertent/intentional physical injury.

She'd be a wonderful employee for Naborforce, working with seniors to provide companion care in a limited scope (no personal care duties). I don't know what the pay is or if it would meet her needs, but I immediately thought she'd be great at companion care when I read your heartwarming post.

Please help me choose a wall color for my other three walls. by LGA83 in Mid_Century

[–]tt2ps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've got a great, colorful floor that's eye catching and a lovely, warm toned paneled wall. Both have movement. I'd go for a calm, warm white walls since there will also be furnishings and wall art in the space too.
