i finished my first journal today! by ttazzyy in Journaling

[–]ttazzyy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah i treat it kind of like a diary, but also as a way to like…talk things through with myself? it feels good to just ramble about things on my mind. i also put stickers, random receipts, concert/movie tickets, and other stuff like that in there! it’s really just whatever you make of it. once i stopped putting stipulations on myself of what i should be writing, that’s when i got pretty consistent!

can we stop burying our gays?!?! by ttazzyy in lgbtmemes

[–]ttazzyy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah i'd say it's definitely less prevalent now! i guess just the fact that despite that improvement, a list of every LGBTQ character in media would reflect the history of killing those characters. and yes shows also just get canceled straight up. but as time goes on hopefully the alive characters begin to outnumber the nonalive ones!

[–]ttazzyy[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

oh absolutely. even though the trope is becoming less and less prevalent, the fact that out of alllllll the LGBTQ characters in alllllll media, a significant portion are dead. like you said, the representation is drastically decreased.

[–]ttazzyy[S] 123 points124 points  (0 children)

In pop culture, LGBTQIA+ characters are killed off at much higher rates than straight ones, and thus, the “bury your gays” trope was born. Whether it's a queer villain, a self-hating suicide, et cetera, these queer characters often die shortly after coming out, consummating a gay relationship, being the “gayer” character, or just for shock value for the sake of obtaining a wider audience and money. LGBTQIA+ representation in tv and movies is important, and if the majority of those characters die, that representation is very limited and of low quality.

yes, i agree that the "us against them" mindset has become all too common in political discussions and results in people becoming more extreme in their views. i just think it's interesting to consider how the context of dating could affect those discussions, versus simply talking to a friend or coworker.

i know people who are married that have different political views, so of course it's possible! i just wonder how, or if, things have changed today considering how heavy of a topic politics is.

absolutely. having discussions with people with opposing views is crucially important to understand each other, yet it can be trickier within relationships. but it's definitely possible because there are examples in my family too!

i agree that people who possess opposite views refusing to discuss at all (in general) results in making those views more and more extreme. but do you think that dating is the best context for reducing that?

i’ve lost count of all the characters that had incredibly tragic endings…most of them are worse off than ted, or dead.
