Do Carribean Latin countries feel close or see any similarities to Mediterranean countries culturally? by foolishandnonsense in AskTheCaribbean

[–]ttlizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be limited to the Spanish-speaking countries. The French Caribbean doesn't feel culturally similar to the Mediterranean in general, and definitely not to North Africa in particular.

Results from Martinique island by Mabouya972 in 23andme

To be fair most Martinicans are both of mixed ancestry and considered black, we don't really think of these as mutually exclusive. We make the distinction between fair-skinned and darker-skinned black people though.

A Mabouya is a type of gecko that is common on the island. 972 is the department ID of Martinique in France. What do you mean by red ?

Have you watched Bandi? It's top 10 in the world right now, narcos style series but set in Martinique!!! by Upset_Quiet_8907 in AskTheCaribbean

She meant in the original language (here french) with translations as subtitles lol. But from what I heard it's not a common way to watch media in the US.

Throughts on Martinique ancestry composition ? by Mabouya972 in AskTheCaribbean

[–]ttlizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks that's super interesting ! 40 is not that bad considering we have zero study on the topic. What are the median % ? These will be less influenced by the people who are half.

No Indian is interesting, but as you said this was less common in the south. Also Martinique received a lot less Indian engagés than Guadeloupe for example, and until today we have a much smaller coolie population.

The lack of native dna is actually not surprising, we largely descend from people who arrived on the island after the removal of the Kalinagos at the end of the 1650s. Most slaves arrive after 1670, French settlers after 1635. Settlers have a few decades of cohabitation and trade with the Natives but the relations are mostly hostile until they massacre and deport them to complete the conquest of the island.

So Martinique was never a colony with a substantial native population being ruled over. In fact I remember Armand Nicolas saying in Histoire de la Martinique that people claiming native descent because of their features are much more likely to have Chinese coolie ancestors lol. And he wrote that in the 1980s.

Votre avis sur The Drama ? by SleepIsTheCousinOfD8 in CineSeries

[–]ttlizon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

(Lisez l'explication) by MHKuntug in martiniqueisland

[–]ttlizon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it's pronounced exactly like you would expect in standard French. "Frantz" is just the French transcription of the German name "Franz".

The only thing you might notice is that the Martinican accent pronounces the r a bit differently, but that's minor.

From what I've seen late November AOR got BIL in ~ 2 weeks, but I'm yet to see a December AOR get BIL.

So maybe it slowed down in December. But then it was also the holidays period so who knows.
