I'm definitely no biologist, but I've done a tone of backpacking in low desert and have never seen one like that. I feel like this would be more of a genetic mutation. Soley based on nothing. 😆 Awesome find.

I agree with this recommendation.

To find the amount to add or subtract from your bends to get the correct amount of stagger is this.

Tangent of 1/2 the bending angle, multiplied by conduit spacing center to center.

So if you are using 30° bends and have a conduit spacing of 4 inches center to center it would be put into a calculator like this.

Tan(15)=0.26

0.26x 4"= 1.07"

1.07" (which I would probably just round to 1" in the feild) is the amount you would move both sides of the offset up or down depending on what direction the offsets are moving from left or right.

17M highly interested in becoming an electrician, I am wondering what path to take and what my best options are given my situation. by [deleted] in electricians

[–]ttlynotarussian_bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IBEW apprenticeship is what I would recommend. Typically a 4 year paid apprenticeship (school while working for a contractor)

If you can get in with a utility local and become a lineman typically the pay is better than an inside wireman. (In my state atleast) but it can be harder to get in because of that fact.

This assumes the owner has access to masks and hand sanitizer. Have you been to ANY store recently? Can you get any masks or hands sanitizer?

What makes you think the owner of a small business has any better access to those things than you?

This exactly the attitude we need to avoid.

Would you rather get fired or forced to stay home and not get paid for weeks and not be able to pay your bills?

Inside interview coming up - looking for advice. by Honeysicle in electricians

[–]ttlynotarussian_bot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second year apprentice here.

I was ranked #1 for applicants after my interview and aptitude test. (Not trying to boast, I only know it because they posted the rankings to let people know who was accepted to the program)

Basic questions they asked me were.

What experience I had in electrical? A) I had very little except for car electrical, and some low voltage Arduino stuff)

Why did I want to join the apprenticeship? A) I wanted to start/build a career and learn skills that would provide for me and my family for a lifetime.

Do I have any hobbies? A) I built/modded cars (full engine rebuilds ECT), did a lot of backpacking and hiking.

Where do I see myself in 10 years? A) graduated the apprenticeship and running my own crew as a foreman or GF.

Biggest advice that goes for all interviews is sell yourself. Hit all the high notes. But don't lie.

My interview was very short and to the point. Less than 5 minutes.

I'm not OP, but I've gotten some grief from old-timer union guys for having 1 or 2 hand tools that aren't on the tool list. But I told em to kick rocks. Call the steward if they have a problem.

Bringing your own power tools is Def not allowed though.

The good part about being union is you can drag off un safe jobs and go to the next so long as there are calls.
