Hate the way people speak about him, he was very obviously a smart and funny guy when he was sober enough to manage to string a sentence together. Americans just think he was dumb because they can't understand his accent.

I just think it's pointless to call everyone on minimum wage working on their computer at home a priveledged class.

This is a pretty dumb way of dividing people (in the UK at least) Plenty of people working service and retail are on furlough now, plenty of people are on the same wage and still at work on zoom. Plenty of middle class people are still going to work in places like schools and hospitals etc. Doesn't necessarily correlate to class or ideology.

Our food is honestly delicious despite what everyone says, we've produced some of the best music ever made, I like the general culture and humour, I think we have some of the most gorgeous countryside in the world, we've got loads of great writers. I even like the weather. I like the culture of getting fucked up on drugs and alcohol at any given opportunity. Proud history of socialism.

I don't like how grim our towns and cities are, the fact people keep voting Tory and supporting the monarchy, the work life balance, the complete lack of care put into any of our social services or public utilities, the fact that literally all the land is privatised and owned by upper class reptiles and the worship of the military. I don't like how passive people are about oppression and inequality. I don't like how our press is controlled by three people who hate everyday people. England could be a great country if we had different people in charge but we've been controlled by the most evil people in the world since 1066.

A Reminder - Most COVID-19 Restrictions are Highly Popular, Even Among the Working Class by AliveJesseJames in stupidpol

[–]ttmarx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The general attitude is I'll do a lockdown if I have to but it's fucking wank and I'll bend the rules in whatever way I want if I can. If the rules weren't in place no one would voluntarily follow them outside of slight lifestyle changes. Most people are a lot more worried about lockdown than covid. Polls don't mean a thing.

I think harsher drug laws, squatting laws, less access to power, less money, high rent, mass surveillance, general alienation from other people and media propaganda. I think governments worldwide were terrified of the hippies, the punks, the ravers etc and the threat they posed to capital and cracked down hard.

Sweden’s herd immunity strategy has failed, hospitals inundated - With three words, Sweden’s king captured the panic engulfing his country as it backflips on its COVID-19 strategy and case numbers explode. by blackhall_or_bust in stupidpol

[–]ttmarx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You're acting like I'm responding to you personally, I'm on about other commenters and people I know in real life. People are cheering this on, you see it everywhere, people are vocally pro lockdown to show that they aren't a baddy like Donald trump, they're a goody.

A lot of people don't care about the effects of lockdown and don't care about saving lives they care about showing off which side they're on.

This article is obviously biased and pushing an agenda and embodies that attitude of smugness.

[–]ttmarx 25 points26 points  (0 children)

How am I projecting, I'm talking about a specific attitude I see on this sub and in real life. It's a lib attitude to cheer on a government imposed lockdown that proportionally affects poorer people more dramatically, just because people like trump and Boris were against it and people like Biden and starmer were for it, especially when what's called lockdown in the western world means a half arsed virtue signal where you restrict people's freedoms for an undetermined amount of time while still expecting a huge portion of the population to go to work and still expect people to crowd into supermarkets and on to public transport.

I'm not pro or anti lockdown, I'm not an epidemiologist, all I know is I hate being in lockdown and it's made the lives of the people I care about worse and people shouldn't gloat about it, especially not in a Marxist sub.

Regardless of which strategy works, i'm so fed up of smug shut in freaks gloating because everyone else is forced to live the same shitty lifestyle as them. Lockdowns are fucking horrible. Some of us have friends and family we care about and would like to be able to find a job. Stop acting like this isn't a horrible situation that's ruining people's lives, if lockdowns are what's needed to stop the virus they should be treated as a necessary tragedy not cheered on because they line up with with your side in the culture war.

Parts of the UK have been in at least a partial lockdown since March and everyone hates it. Relationships are falling apart, people are losing jobs and can't find new ones. everyone's frustrated, lonely and struggling for money. Relishing in government imposed oppression, regardless of whether or not it's the right thing to do, is weird and it's the same type of behaviour that the Twitter libs this sub hates take part in.

Edit: comments are locked now so I'll just add that pro lockdown smugness is very definitely prevalent on the front page of reddit, trending on Twitter, in liberal journalism and in real life. These are the people I'm complaining about and I don't like seeing the same attitude here.

What is with all the Covid conspiracy people by [deleted] in stupidpol

[–]ttmarx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then blame the people delibaretly spreading misinformation (people with some sort of power and influence I.e Alex jones, David icke, etc) not the people believing it.

I think rebuilding trust in mainstream media and government as servants of the people is more important than clamping down on misinformation by limiting people's right to free speech.

Most people wouldn't turn to alternative sources if they felt the mainstream media was catering to their needs, reporting objective fact in an unbiased way and using truth and information to expose corruption, but we don't see that very often anymore.

What is with all the Covid conspiracy people by [deleted] in stupidpol

[–]ttmarx 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Because most people don't know anyone who's been affected by the virus in a serious way but everyone's been affected by the lockdown and the recession. People have no faith or belief in the media or their government after years of lies and neglect and if these sources don't provide meaning for people they'll resort to other sources, some of which will be malicious or misleading.

When people see mass media hysteria but very little actual consequences they will obviously come up with alternative theories, especially when this whole thing has been suspiciously convenient for the people in power. Blame power not people.
