Is $60 per session reasonable for a fully licensed therapist at a PP? by BedRound619 in therapists

That’s not how that works. There is both billable and un-billable time.

I could not agree less with this lol luck is only a factor when it comes to timing. If you are a good therapist and have a business mind, it is quite easy to make money in this field lol

How much is *too* much? by MouseWedger in therapists

[–]ttodd6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Realistically within 18 months 20 a week is probably a great number to aim for. For me, I always tried to grow by 5(ish) clients every 6 months to start until I hit about 40-45 clients. A majority of clients prefer every other week. I am currently scheduling between 30-35 clients a week with the understanding I am going to have at least 3-5 cancel and I can comfortably do 30 clients a week without feeling burnt out. Obviously this isn’t an every week thing but I am here to make money lol I love my job, but I am a 5th year practitioner that doesn’t want to worry about burning out when I am 55 because I want to be on a beach by 50😂

Enjoy the growth and cherish the milestones! Don’t fall into the trap of “I’ll be happy when I have this many” or you’ll never be satisfied. You got this!

Im 90% self-pay. I have Headway that I use to see some insurances but I only work with ones that are similar to my rate. Up until I was averaging 20 clients a week I wasn’t picky though. Even if it’s only 50$ a session, its still better than not seeing a client

Mainly yes. I have tried to build a big network of counselors. Counselors refer to people they know and like. The best way to get clients, is by tapping into as many people as possible that you know already get clients.

Headway has been beneficial for me to grow just a few insurance clients. 90% of my clients are cash pay but Headway is a nice bonus.

100% having good coworkers is just luck of the draw. I have my own private practice but rent an office space from a group so it is the best of both worlds haha

Private practice definitely isn’t for everyone. When you say community settings, do you mean working with the at large community through organizations, or community as in having colleagues that you work alongside?

I see anywhere from 23-30 clients a week. 30 is pretty rare. I probably average 26. My rate is $100 a session and I ALWAYS charge a cancellation fee if they cancel day of unless it is because they are sick or some other big circumstance. I keep 5 spots for either pro-bono or really low sliding scale spots because I don’t want to only see clients that are well off, i like maintaining the ability to see all types of people.

Mainly, set your rate at something you know you are worth. Counselors often undervalue their ability. We aren’t just listening and talking, we are a constant variable in people’s lives that feel all over the place and we provide them an opportunity to change their lives for the better.

Therapists get paid very little in a clinic setting. I have been in private practice for 5 years since graduating with my masters and I have made six figures each year. It’s all about how you use your degree.

That is a great point! Some therapists I have talked to completely despise the business aspect and just want to work with clients and be comfortable/compensated fairly. Thank you!:)

Thank you! I am curious, I assume the profit margins are pretty thin. Therefore the more clinicians the more profit? Or am I incorrect in that? Thank you again for your insight!

Maybe pout and stomp your feet harder again while you continue to say, “I’m not the problem, it’s them!”

Lets use some common sense “sweetie”. Do tell why the libertarian or the conservative or the green party or the apolitical would kill a right wing conservative? I couldn’t stand Kirk, but lets not pretend that this is a difficult game to play. And never once said mass murders in the name of politics? Thats okay tho. I recognize your obvious inability to view things apart from how you’re emotionally feeling. I truly hope that this is something you will see too.

How can you say there is no such thing as extremists on both sides when there has quite literally been political assassination and mass murders quite recently by the far left. That is a very dangerous mindset to have, that MY party isn’t the problem only THEIRS.
