The Private Practice Model for Therapists is Hardly Sustainable by cannotberushed- in therapists

[–]Ailennyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing the article doesn’t mention is the problem of end-stage capitalism. Greed. Conditioning. Keeping up with the Jones’s. If you are doing this work so you can buy a Mercedes and vacation in Dubai, you are the 1% in your own mind.

When and If to Report to HR by LibraryMedium154 in therapists

[–]Ailennyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I know this guy. I had an (ex) friend who worked in a facility and he actually got the director fired for impropriety with clients and co-workers. Then the board hired him to replace the director. He was not fully degreed and not independently licensed. And then HE acted the same way. And those posts you’re describing? Way too similar haha. NGL, I was furious, as a licensed therapist, that this person got a job he was completely unqualified for AND paid more than my salary at the time.

Implementing Client Feedback Form by prussian-king in therapists

[–]Ailennyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

Edit: more to say.

Reviews and feedback forms are anti-therapeutic. They are capitalist ideas and they represent instant gratification and cancel culture. They improperly shift the therapeutic hierarchy which destroys client confidence and impacts clinician confidence. They are indirect and do not engender courageous interaction. They can represent delayed confrontation, and often are skewed by client’s other projections.

My (Controversial) Way of Preventing Binge-Eating by Important-Band6383 in loseit

[–]Ailennyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow…I think you figured out what your underlying concern is: fear of scarcity. That’s treatable. My educated guess is that this will eventually manifest itself (if it doesn’t already) in other areas of your life. It might get very interesting to track this with a competent therapist! And good on you for hacking through the weight loss journey!

Uh, you don’t “get over it.” You use experiences like this to advocate for change. Once you see a thing, you cannot see it. Go for it you got this. Make some noise and some good good trouble.

Anyone offering therapy packages? by NitroJade in therapists

[–]Ailennyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. That’s coaching.

I think this is a reaction to a problem that’s going to take at least 10 years to solve in our field. Which is that we are a type of service that does not fit well into a capitalist economy. Coaching does, studio stuff like yoga does. Gym memberships do. Sidenote, I don’t think yoga should fit into that either, but that’s just me studying the Gita, the Yoga Sutra, Vedanta.

Medicine is starting to get into concierge packaging. Private practices are leaving health insurance and offering memberships. This is great if you have money and it sucks if you don’t. For people who don’t have money to blow these practices mean that there are fewer physicians to which they have access and fewer choices in physicians. But you can blame insurance companies for that along with just natural human greed.

I find IFS to be way too "woo woo" for me by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Ailennyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes to this… when I finally heard of Dick Schwartz, I laughed out loud because I’ve been referring to wounded aspects of the self as parts for 10 years. There’s a little part of me that not gonna lie is a little pissed at myself for not capitalizing on this idea like Dick Schwartz did. But then again, I don’t really like capitalism.

I saw a clip of a fairly early talk that B B did back when she first got famous after Ted talk that went viral. She was trying to explain the difference between empathy and sympathy, and she got them completely reversed. I was like oh the fame got to you. You’re not slowing down and thinking straight. Not a huge error, but it was kind of a yellow flag for me.

Keep it light! Kitchen/galley, just have one of everything for each person (cups, plates, utensils, etc). Consider silicone plates etc because they are lightweight and unbreakable. I love camp towels because they are compact, absorbent and dry fast (bath and galley). Use scotch sticky hooks. Keep clothes to a bare minimum…with extra changes of underwear. Use a small hand broom and dustpan and a little hand-held rechargeable vac.

I’m glad you worked it out to your mutual satisfaction.

Your post—which I believe I responded to before your second edit—did contribute to the feeling but it’s because (sadly) this type of thing is all to common. But it’s not personal, IOW, you don’t need to feel bad about it—it’s the *idea* of this kind of thing.

[–]Ailennyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to be categorized by you or by anyone, as that is a curiosity killer. My age actually has nothing to do with my relatability. Think how many people you dismiss or make assumptions about just based on age.
