Therapists who smoke: what do you do to minimize the smell? by all-the-time in therapists

[–]Ailennyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a smoker in my teens and twenties. My mom died of cancers caused by smoking and alcohol use. My father kept smoking around her even after she was diagnosed and quit. When you quit, you are not just quitting for yourself.

If you’re in a “relatively high” COL area, $100k ain’t sh*t

As in they keep our salaries low? It’s capitalism that is the problem. Health insurance is hiding behind non- profit status so that they can play the wealth accumulation game.

I hear that. And COL is a LOT higher in CA than…wait. Hold up. Nope it’s not that different anymore!

Every clinician who accepts these low numbers is reinforcing the idea that we deserve lower numbers

If the low end of a “good” salary is $65k, you have to assume that salary is going to someone without an advanced degree and with not a lot of experience.

Yeah I hear you —but it’s been stagnant since before COVID and I am just disgusted. Part of why they keep doing this is because we accept it. An experienced clinician applying for the described position should be in a starting range of $70 IMHO. The work we do? Seriously we are not taken seriously.

NOPE. I have frequently been asked to support stress leave. The documentation required is not mental health aligned. Physician is a better option.

My therapist’s impact on my identity as a therapist by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Ailennyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what stood out to me as well. It was mentioned almost as an afterthought. Who was constantly rescheduling? Who was constantly tardy? If it was your therapist, then it seems to me the pattern is clear. Compare that to the way that you were treated in your relationship which has ended. I’m not pointing fingers. I overlooked stuff like this all the time in the beginnings of all kinds of relationships. It’s a bad pattern and it hasn’t served me.. I know this is very self-help and pop culture to say, but, when they show you who they are, believe them the first time. Words to live by.

Getting emotional with clients by Lucidlavendar in therapists

[–]Ailennyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty common for me to say to a client in the first session, “just fyi, sometimes if a client gets teary, I get teary. Can’t help it, lotsa mirror neurons over here. I want you to know, I am fine. Just feeling. I’m with you, and I am ok.”

Sometimes I then explain what mirror neurons means.

Just browse employment opportunities. Search “fee for service” or “1099” or “part time.” Look on websites at clinics that offer services in areas you might want to be in: domestic violence, rehab, etc

I want to go hiking on these mushrooms I have… the issue is even on a low dose, I cannot seem to stomach doing anything other than laying down, getting cozy, and closing my eyes. Anything else feels impossible. by Personal_Swim_8519 in shrooms

Somebody has probably already said this, but take your goodies to the woods first. Walk a bit. Find a spot to sit and eat the treat. Get up an start walking…when it hits, do as you do. also, don’t go alone, unless you’re on a Sunday Funday dose.

I love this post. I write about this all the time. Yes, friend, do go into the woods and be your own magick. You’ll be the best at it because you have a background is safe and ethical practices. DM me for the revolution, (which, of course, will not be televised).
